I love Kookaburras.

Had my own close encounter last night. A cockroach kept flying onto my balcony while I was observing. At one point he landed on the edge of the dew shield. Told him he was looking in the wrong end and he flew away.

Seems this has moved on to bird stories so I’ll add mine, if you don’t mind.

Looking at Saturn earlier this year with my 6” f12 when the planet moved out of view quickly....thought my new ATM 2” mount had stopped.....looked up to see an Owl sitting on my dewshield, didn’t hear it arrive or leave.

We are VERY friendly to all the wildlife around us, to the point where the Magpies, Mickies and Cockatoos let us get to within centimetres of them as they know we aren't going to do anything to them. One particular Mickie even comes and follows me from the car to the house, hopping from tree to tree. I then hand-feed him (I call him George - it's probably a Georgina :lol:). The Currawongs have gotten friendly too, and even the Magies and Mickies tolerate them now. The Crows and Pidgeons on the other hand are definitely on the "Defend Territory" list - immediately the Mickies attack, followed by the parent Magpies :)

Rabbits aren't worried about us now either, and will sit out in the garden. Even had a fox come right up to the house (you should have seen our cat rile up to fight him/her ...the fox bolted!!!).

Was cleaning shoes sitting on my garden stool one day, and there came a rabbit to investigate - came to within 2 feet, stopped, sniffed around, and just started chewing on something in the grass tufts. Stayed like that for 5 minutes.

We have a number of Kookaburras around home, even better we have had a Sacred Kingfisher turn up this year, we have not actually seen one here before. A quite elusive little bird. It took a couple of days of looking to find it, every mornign and night we could hear its call.

I once watched a Kooka pinch a perfectly cooked sausage off a lit BBQ, only issue was it was a chilli sausage and he was obviously not so keen on that when it sank in what was biting his beak!
