While versions of the linked image have earned me a little kudos over time, I've only ever uploaded cropped colour versions onto the Web....and figured it was time
to upload the full field captured with my STX 16803 rig.

The link is here (http://www.atscope.com.au/BRO/gallery416.html)

Might make a nice screen saver :)

Sorry, in retrospect, my timing on the post was pretty ordinary, and not intended to draw comparisons. But thanks for your comment

Hi Peter - that's fantastic,
you've got the jets in the Herbig-Haro object
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/33/NGC_3372d.jpg
& the finger of God is clear too.

You're getting such extraordinary detail -
anyone would think you're living in the Atacama desert. :)

cheers
Allan

Thanks for your kind comments and glad you enjoyed the expanded view....albeit definitely not from the Atacama desert

Who needs dark skies! Delightfully processed, and a lesson in sharpening without overdoing it.
Thanks for sharing Peter!
cheers,
Andrew.

Spectacular! So much detail - and beautifully processed. Gives some inspiration to those of us who also image from light polluted suburbs - but way too good for me.

Hi Peter,

Best I have ever seen, the detail, the fun zooming around looking at all the bits in high res. Very well done.

Cheers,
Damien.

I suppose it is OK, just kidding, excellent work Peter.:eyepop:

Thanks Leon

That tragic eh? :D

Too kind Damien. Narrow band components really don't suffer at all from being an urban location...the H-alpha I managed to get was virtually unaffected by urban skyglow. Sure the RGB is trickier, but again, with brighter subjects, not impossible either.

Thanks Tony. Urban imaging rules  (nah...just kidding )

In a nutshell: the finest image I have ever seen posted, at least in this forum.

Can see why that telescope costs so much money. I want one!

That is very kind of you H.....:thanx:

As for the cost, unlike cars/boats, you only pay once, with little maintenance and or rapid depreciation to follow. No tinkering, mods or replacing bits were required.

It just worked as specified and in a world where so much stuff is built to a price rather than a specification, it’s a refreshing change.

A remarkable image Peter. The crystalline Hubblesque detail in the HH jets took my breath away.

Incredible Peter. Dont use that word very often. Yeah thats roooly sharp equipment. And seeing must have been excellent? Would love to see one of the 'poorer' seeing subs

Peter Ward
23-12-2017, 09:59 AM
Thanks M & T. There is a tad more detail in the original 4k .tif file...but at 32Mb is not web friendly at all.

An seasons greetings to you as well Andy. Maybe I should call it the P..T.Barnum nebula...a little something for everyone :)

Ta Simon, the seeing was good, probably sub 2 arc second, but not excellent.
I’ve only seen really good seeing at my location just before a fog rolls in and fills the valley across from my observatory. As for poorer seeing subs...I don’t do any narrow field imaging when the seeing is rubbish....they are times better spent with a camera lens or good glass of Shiraz.

Congratulation again^ Peter - an astounding image.

It leads me to wonder what is possible for mere mortals and to ask , if I'm not being too nosey : How suburban is suburban in terms of the darkness (radiance data) of your local sky for this image? What sort of radiance reading do you get from the light pollution map below ? ....https://www.lightpollutionmap.info/#zoom=9&lat=-4011306&lon=16832281&layers=B0TFFFFFFF

JA

PS: Mine is terrible : 41 at Home Melbourne Bayside, but much better at 3.9 and 2.1 at two lovely spots within 15minutes.

What a great looking photo Peter.

Beautiful colours and the sharpness is amazing!

Thanks...and sorry for the tardy response...been busy..

Radiance data in my neck of the woods looks to be about 15-20 ish. But frankly I don't think that radiance map is accurate. Just a 20 minute walk north put one into 35 or so....big shift for a short walk.

Thank you Alan.

Glad you think so.

:thanx: Alex. Too Kind.

P.S.
I would have thought this pre-Christmas post might have passed its use-by date by now...I find posts that get dredged up from the depths (including my own) are a bit like a crass dinner guest who doesn't know when to leave :) ...hence I won't respond further on this one. If anyone has a question just PM yours truly. Thanks again guys.
