Well, for me a no-no. Too heavy and bulky.
I'd rather have a decent transportable 30cm Dobson.

For AP I’d go and talk to ASA about making a 3m F/2 astrograph. I believe they made a 1.2m F/2 a few years back so it’s just a simple matter of upscaling

For visual, I’ve got a 4” and 10” with is perfect for me in Melbourne but maybe a SDM fair the dark site.

Yeah, like the Rolls Royce salesman said, "if you have to ask, you can't afford it"!

I think I already have my dream scopes, just need dream skies.

I've just repurchased a C11 Edge after reducing light pollution via a shield on my nearest LED street lamp. Then my new neighbours cleared a bunch of trees exposing a populated hillside, but I still had the best backyard views ever of the Tarantula and surrounding nebulosity. I can see more without filters now.

I'm on my second TSA120 which pairs very nicely with a Binotron. There probably should be a rule that if a scope is bought twice it shouldn't be sold again :) (unless finances get stressed)

My NP101is is great for imaging and grab-and-go visual.

Then there's the Edge 8" which will only be used on a trip given my other scopes. Should I sell it?

I feel greedy already owning that lot :) Took a long time to accumulate though.

Great scopes for sure Tony.and all achievable through hard work...I was thinking more along the lines of a lotto win, inheritance and just going for what you desire eg ASA, Lomo,LZOS ,APM optics AND mounts, domes..assuming good skies...maybe a move needed..and then selecting that HUGE scope most of us have dreamed about.
VIZ scopes worth much more than a years wages.
Over $80000 ...and more like $250000 +.an average Sydney house well over 1mill so not impossible with an inheritance.

After having the pleasure of using the 9" inch Oddie at Mt Strombo on a memorable evening many years ago, I always thought it would be nice to have a quality, 9inch refractor with more modern glass.

I found something suitable ...

NOW THATS WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT..this and larger.
So many would spend an inheritance of 500000 on a ferrari etc to be worth nothing much in 10...20 plus yrs.
This is our passion ..that so many dont understand ..and this scope is still under a yrs average wages.

for me, the equipment doesnt matter if you dont have the sky and weather to match. my ideal scope is my scope but with a cloud filter.

Dream imaging scope, and you only need second division to afford it: https://www.officinastellare.com/professional-telescopes-prod/rhveloce/RH_Veloce_200_Mark_II_AT.html
It's also only 9kg.

Dream visual would be a big dob with premium mirror, along with a dark observing site.

The price is nothing apparently compared to this expensive amateur setup Officina Stellare - RIFAst 800 f/3.8 Ceramic Glass Full-Carbon Optical Tube thats from Telescope .net at Woodland Hills.

$205,999.99

.As I said a dream ..but an inheritance or lotta win etc
Makes Tec and Tak, AP look cheap for what you get.

True but assuming youll have good skies a fair amount of the time and you HAD THE MONEY ..then why not get what you have always desired..that 8inch plus Apochromat or 1m RC, CDK,Cassegrain! Mount and Cameras.

Dream Scope Nirvana for me .... might be an Istar 8" inch Bino Refractor for Wide Field use only .... forget planets ... DSO / Clusters / etc ... panning the Milky Way.

I can only imagine how this would go at a ' Dark Site ' :eyepop:

2 of these joined at the ' hip '

Col.....:D

Bob like you I have many happy memories of using the Oddie, though IMHO I now have something better - and it’s portable :)

Wavy..
Your Santel Maksutov of over 9 inches is going to be a hard act to follow...in that under 10 category of a dream scope..
I dont see how even a great 6" triplet could touch it visually ..very high strehls indeed!!
