Anyone know of a thin M48 Tilt Adapter?

Or perhaps a thin-ish OAG that includes a tilt adapter?

Not really... how thin is "thin"? I just got a Gerd Neumann Camera Tilting Unit because they have the adjustment screws on the outside edge (rather than the "face"), which means I won't have to keep unscrewing the damned thing to make an adjustment. Unfortunately I think they're all 17 - 19mm thick.

That looks good. I'll have to calculate if I've got enough space for that in the path and to get things connected. I have this suspicion I may not though...

I think it will be difficult to find a tilting unit thinner than 17mm or so. Any thinner than that and I believe it could be susceptible to flexing.

I also have the CTU unit from Gerd Neumann and it is a nice piece of kit. Screws could be made of a harder alloy though.

Yeah, I thought there might be issues if it was thinner.

Anyway, probably a moot point. I think I have just less than that amount available with juggling current adapters required between each item. Certainly too risky a purchase for the low chance of success in fitting.

Chris,
Have a look at the ZWO T2 tilter it's only 11mm wide.

Thanks Ken - I saw that, but it's T2 not M48. And the knobs themselves might cause issue given how far they stick out.

Price reduces by 20% after VAT comes off.

Looks like the TS one I have ^ They're a PITA to use because the adjustment screws are on the face of the device so you're likely to need to unscrew everything to make an adjustment. Depends on your imaging train I guess...

Yes, forgot that I have the same one, useless for me with my current camera and definitely looks less solid than CTU unit from Gerd, but could be okay with a much lighter and smaller camera.

The camera weight isn't an issue (ASI1600). The size of the objects in the path are going to cause problems. I think those adjusters would not be visible where I'd have to put this tilt adapter.

I managed to take some images last night - I'll see how much I lose with the current issues and maybe live with it. :)

QHY make a tilt adjustable ring for their camera range.
The one for the QHY8/10/12 is $30, and the larger one for the QHY11 is $35.

EDIT: The QHY12 user manual says it adds 3mm backfocus to the camera.

Cheers
Bill

That's interesting. Do you know if they are M48 thread? And any info on how much adjustment can be made?

Chris,
Altair Astro have the thin M48 version...

Chris, I just had a look at mine from QHY.
The only thread is a M42 (or T2) female thread. The ring attaches to the camera with 3 thumb screws to the M48 dovetail.

Below is a cut/paste from the QHY12 manual.

There is a M42/0.75 thread on the QHY10/12, which can connect directly to the telescope.

If it needs adjustment, then the center and angle adjustment ring should be used.

Center adjustment---- unscrew the three screws around the ring. The adjustment ring sets into
the dovetail slot of QHY10/12. By adjusting the location of the three screws, you can achieve about
1mm center adjustment.

Angle adjustment-----slightly unscrew the three screws. There is small screw on the slide side of the
ring, which adjusts the size of inclination angle. If you rotate QHY10/12 relative to the adjustment ring, you
can obtain the correct angle.

After finishing the adjustment you should lock up the three screws.

I added a photo of mine.
