I was lucky enough to catch the aurora a couple of times during a month long visit to Tasmania in November. I was surprised just how colourful and bright it was to the naked eye too.

These shots were taken with my Samyang 14mm, wide open on my Canon 5D MkII, ISO1600, 30s.

I posted a while back about a focus issue I had with my 24mm Samyang after I dropped it :( Well in the process of learning how to fix it, I learned how to tweek my 24mm to perfection! I could process the edge effects a bit better, but this lovely lens is back on top as my favorite :D

Lovely Jonathan. I've been wanting to capture aurora for years but never been in the right place at the right time.

Great image Jonathan.

Exposure 30s f2.8 ISO1600? Was it visible to the naked eye?

Looking forward to catching up with you & Anne next week.

regards

Joe

Thanks, I was certainly lucky to get a chance to see them - the combination of clear sky, good location and Auroral activity is quite a difficult one!

Yes, those settings exactly. The aurora was certainly visible to the naked eye, and the colours too which was a nice surprise. Fingers crossed for a clear sky next week!

Weather is not looking too good at the moment. GFS is indicating clear sky only on Monday night but cloudy on Tuesday night. If the clearing gets delayed we might luck out.
