It all came together this morning. Finally got all the bits and pieces I needed to get the DMK up and running. With a new DMK and PST and finally some clear skies (forget the wind  ) what else could I do. :)

Here is the second avie from this morning. The colour processing is something I'm going to be working on but as far as detail is concerned the mono camera leaves the colour camera for dead!!!!

30fps for 20sec
best 150/600

I need to use a barlow as the DMK won't quite come to focus atm. I need to modify the adapter, should be easy though.

I'll process and upload one I captured this morning with the ToUcam for a comparison (final needed accessories for the DMK arrived during an imaging session with the ToUcam  :D )

Taken with the ToUcam just prior to the above shot.

Same processing except different wavelets.

That ToUcam shot looks heavily pixelated on my laptop screen:shrug:

Ahhhhhhhhhh.... I see.

Yep. Looking back at your original post the reference to red channel is there.

Are these single frames or stacked? How many frames etc

Good stuff:thumbsup:

For both images 150/600 frames. The ToUcam was at 10fps and the DMK @ 30 fps. I'm processing a DMK @ 15 fps atm so I'll post it when finished.

15 fps with slightly different processing.

Hi Paul

Fantastic images with the DMK and PST, I'm pleased that everything has now come together. What filter wheel did you get in the end? And, where are you getting the clear skies from???

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks for the positive comments guys.

By comparing the two DMK images it definately looks like the 30 fps is the way to go :)

I ended up getting the ATiK filter wheel and Baader colour filters Dennis.( until I can afford Astronomik :) )

I was lucky enough to manage about 2 hours of clear skies this morning.

Did your laptop have any probs running at 30fps? Are you capturing to the internal drive or an external USB2 drive?

np at all Mike, though I am capturing to the internal drive. I'll try to the external usb2 HDD next time and see how I go.

I started with the baader ones.. they're ok but I found the colour balance very hard to get right with Jupiter - the red filter had a (seemingly) low transmission and was dimmer than the other channels.

The astronomiks were heaps better! although they're still not parfocal. There is still slight adjustment in focusing required between red and green, and slighter still between green and blue.

.

I would have thought that would have been the same with all filters

I imagine it is too, but not all filters claim to be parfocal :)

Yes, and yes again, yes please. They are very enjoyable to look at, congrats and thanks for the captures.

excellent work.

paul haese had to adapt his DMK as well for the solar work. not sure if there was a thread over on SCP or not.

He talked to a few guys on the uk astro site and I think cloudy nights (not exactly sure)

There are a few different adapters around, but it seems to be a common problem with most webcams, it is with my 3 anyway. I need to be able to get the chip closer to the PST. It will be an easy fix though. There is a small shoulder on the adapter (about 3-4mm thick), if I grind that down with the ol' dremmil the camera should go all the way in, right to the camera case then. That will give me an additional 6-8mm then, plenty of focus travel hopefully. Maybe even enough to fit a Mogg FR to try for full disk imaging ;)

Excellent image that Paul. Like to see how you do on the deep sky stuff with the DMK. Would you believe not had a clear night over here in the UK since getting my DMK :( .

Thanks Steve. I'm looking forward to trying a few long exposures as well.

Apart from the temperature, I sometimes think that the UK weather has decided to holiday down under at the end of last year. We've only had half a dozen (and that's being generous I think) decent nights since mid October.

Fantastic shot! Excellent!
The comparative view with the Toucam really makes the DMK seem like miles ahead.

Top work Paul!

The difference between the ToUcam and the DMK is significant.
