Hey er

Handy list.

In "1234 order" I'm assuming that's Io... Europa ...Ganymede... and Callisto all on the same side of ol' Joops?

If so, that's more times than I though would happen in one year. A nice surprise:)

Hi Matt,

You are correct

The 1234 order is Jupe, Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. This is astronomically insignificant but visually interesting. You can "learn" the magnitude differences this way as well to help identify the moons when they're jumbled all around.

It's just nice to see the "Family Portrait" with all of the kids in order.

I did this list the first time last year and I, like you, was surprised at how often it occurs - that's a good thing. I did one for Saturn 2 thru 6 and got one instance in a year.

The Royal Straight Flush is when the Great Red Spot can be seen with the moons in order!

Print and save this baby because it won't be long before it's on page 15.

Clear skies to you,

Ed
