I have collected many visual spectroscopes over the years and I have to say I'm very impressed with this one.
Good clean spectrum and it looks pretty well made (better than the ones from India)

Ken, pardon my ignorance, but what applications would this device have?

Basically for quick visual analysis of light.
Can be used to verify the spectrum of different light sources and transmission of filters.
This model includes glass tubes which can be filled with various liquids/chemicals to determine Spectral differences.
Also widely used to confirm gemstones by their refraction.

I've noticed that Surplus Shed in the USA are selling 3 different types of spectroscopes at the moment. Tempted to get one just to diversify the astro arsenal. Always wondered what happened to the grating spectroscope I made from a kit, when I was a teenager back in the 60s'.

Jeff,
None of the Surplus Shed spectroscopes are suitable for astronomy.
The Student's version is a great instrument for understanding the basics....
For astro, a better investment is the Star Analyser from Paton Hawksley.
