Great shots! But how come no blurring or star trails after "4 minutes unguided"... Or do I not understand what you mean by unguided?

Unguided in this sense means he didn't have computerised guiding (using a guidescope+webcam+software) to correct tracking errors introduced by the LX200's tracking mechanism.
The LX200 would've still been tracking across the sky using his wedge.
Very nice shots Paul, apart from the bright core of M83 that's exactly how it looked in teh eyepiece the other night.
Is it possible to take any more exposures and stack them, or go for longer? Is your mount not exactly polar aligned? Will you be able to longer exposures eventually?

Hi Paul,
Great shots. What ISO are you using? If you can try going higher, dropping the exposure time, and stacking more frames. I go for a least 6. Also with higher ISO you may also need to do dark frame subtraction. It's easy to do and worth the effort.
Welcome to the world if DSLR imaging!! You'll never look back..!
Cheers
great shots paul. galaxies are my next thing to look for after my double hunting.
gotta admit that double hunting is easier with the double catalogue on cdc :)

Steve, as mike said unguided means that I am not physically guiding the scope on an exposure.
Mike, polar is good, but had many target to get last night, will do more exposures next time. We have bad weather coming and so I wanted to maximise my effort.
Robby iso800, will need to do darks and flats I think. Will do many more shots to get a better shot and M83 is now on my full on target list.
Thanks chaps for the comments.

Not understanding the tech side of imaging, it`s hard for me to make good or bad out of those pics Paul, they look real great to me.

2x4 mins, is this exsposure time?
Stacked, ?
Go for longer,?
I do scratch my head at times trying to understand things.

Yep, 2x 4 minute long shots are added together (stacked.. using Registax program)
Go for longer means longer exposure... eg 2x 10min shots

Without peltier cooling (or similar) on a DSLR, 5mins is about max, unless you go low gain (ie low ISO).
Shooting more & stacking is the best way to increase detail for these cameras.

Thanks Andrew, that`s helped me a bit more into the right direction.

Robby, i take your comment as the more pictures in low gain, you end up with better detail, depending on which camera is used.
