I can know call myself an EQ6 owner!
My EQ6 arrived at the Snake Valley Post Office today. Boy O Boy it is heavy! Both Packages.
BOTH PACKAGES!!!!!!!! :eyepop:
There is supposed to be 3 packages!
Ok, what is it with Australia Post????
Houghy sent 3 packages from his end from the same Post Office at the same time, and yet Australia Post, in their proffessional way, have managed to deliver 2 of them today and no sight of the third. :mad2:
The Tripod didn't arrive! :(
So my poor lonely looking Mount Head, counterweights and Hand Controller are laying on the floor looking very forlorn and detached
As I have nothing to mount the Head on, I can't temporarily set it up and learn to use the Hand Controller.
Oh well, Mondays Post is only a few days away. I can sit and look at the Head until then. And read the instructions on the Hand Controller. I suppose that is a good thing as it has stopped me from assembling it all and trying to GoTo with it in the loungeroom 'before' I read any instructions. :P
Stoopid Australia Post :tasdevil:
But I'm still excited to get the parts that have already turned up :)
and it's cloudy anyway
Hey Ken...
2 outta 3 ain't bad, or so Mr Loaf reckons:lol:
The mysterious goings-on at Australia Post remain among the Universe's great mysteries and being devotees of the Universe and all its contents we must appreciate that:rofl:

Matt,
Australia Post does seem to fit the 'Universe' mould. It has a Black Hole where mail seems to get sucked into the Void

Couldn't help myself!
I had to take a pic of EQ6 next to it's little baby brother EQ1.
The EQ1 is what I have been using for some of my imaging!!! :eyepop:
Can't wait to see what the EQ6 can do in the stability area.
Yep. That's about the size of it:lol:
She's a beefy unit, no doubt about it.
The funny thing is you soon get used to it and it feels kinda small!

good stuff Ken, you should be happy with it, wow at the size difference.
It's funny though, it isnt that big after you use it a few times.

I'll hang the EQ1 around my neck on a necklace so I can always remember just how much BIGGER the EQ6 is

Its a sign...get a pier whilst you have a good excuse.
Great stuff Ken you will be happy with the mount I am confident of that.. I found mine better than all expectations smooth as and not wiggles when manually correcting... the reason my other mount was always unguided was because if you corrected it showed in the photo.. not so with the eq6..
Gee it sure is a pity you have it sortta there but really cant use it ..never mind another week or two wont hurt... assuming the tripod turns up..I dont know I would order a pier for it just in case something really goes wrong at Australia Post and they have lost it.

Thanks Alex, good advice mate
but if I could afford to buy a pier I would've bought the brand new EQ6 Pro and had it Courier delivered
But, the way I am, no doubt I'll have it mounted on something by tomorrow afternoon

I couldn't find the polar scope, so it must be the model that came out waaayyyy back when the EQ6 didn't have polar scopes.
Found it! It's under the domed cover  :ashamed:
Nice carpet there Ken. oop's didnt see the mount

Ken i am sorry the tripod hasn't arrived, at least you have the important bits. Funny (not har har either) how they got separated from being all together in the one spot?
I take it you are happy with the mount thus far?

I heard somewhere if you caress and massage your mount while it's young it's easier to polar align through those teenage years.
It needs love Ken.

Which is the correct manual to download from this list for my EQ6?
I have the Skyscan 2.05a
http://www.skywatchertelescope.net/Support.html
Or does anyone have a better link to the manual for the Skyscan 2.05a?
The actual model I have has this polarscope view, not the other one:

ken the mount was upgraded by installing the synscan kit, the mount head is older (maybe better), hence the older polar scope mount

Yeah, that's good Houghy, often older stuff is made better.
But where do I find the manual for the Hand Controller?
I'm looking at all these buttons on the Hand Controller and don't know what they do

By the way, congrats on the new mount!
And when the Mrs asks you to remove the mount from the bed tonight it might pay to listen to her. As much as you want to cuddle caress and sleep with it tonight, it just may be a little safer.

Well, I'll sleep in the loungeroom with it, Daniel

Try... http://www.skywatchertelescope.net/Downloads/HEQ5andEQ6130405V1.pdf
or
http://www.skywatchertelescope.net/Dwonloads/SynScan210305V1.pdf
One of them should be enough to get you going Ken.
Hi Ken, congrats on the new mount, that reminds me of when I got my LX200R, the shipping company in their wisdom left the scope in Sydney, sent the tripod to Melbourne and sent the box of accessories to me in Canberra.
Happily we were all reunited a few days later. :)
Cheers

Good stuff mike :) There is the v3 manual aswell, but goes into firmware updates and new button presses. I think the links I have supplied are more than usefull for pre-v3 users.

All is good.
Bert put me onto this great video!
The Video makes it all so simple. Even though the Yanks call an EQ6 an 'Orion Atlas EQ-G'
