View Full Version here: : One for Mum

When I was a little tacker about 8 or 9 y/o, I enjoyed looking out at the stars from my bedroom window.
One night my Mum joined me, and I remember her pointing out the Pleiades and telling me the story about how big bad ol' Orion would never catch those ladies.
I always liked that story :) and this has always been my favourite constellation.
Sadly, Mum passed away peacefully a few weeks back, after a fine innings at 93, so this one's for her. :love2:
Taken under dark skies at VicSouth, near Nhill in far west Vic.
Not the easiest of nights chasing some rare PA & Balance issues, so only managed 4 hours on this between 1-5am.
Probably needs double that and LRGB is not my usual deal, so this was a fun processing adventure as well. :D
Big noisy one here (http://www.astrobin.com/318173/)

Really nice Andy, you've captured both the reflection and dusty areas very nicely :)

The small version looks good, Andy! More data required for the big one :)

Nice one Andy, actually, to my eye it has Ricks PI processing hallmarks all over it ;) Great job from that far south too Andy! Good to see real normal looking images from you too

Thanks Colin, reckon you couldn’t drag any more dust out of that data with a Mack truck! Thanks for the feedback 😊
Agreed, Booked three nights at VicSouth, but the weather closed in after the first night (sigh) hopefully I can get back to a dark site this summer to add data.
Thanks Mike. Going to a real dark site is a treat!
VicSouth is a 4.5 hr drive so it just had to be an LRGB target ;)
Never fear, you’ll see more “Andyfied” images in future - lol!
Glad you liked the pic :)

Thanks Greg, LRGB is not usually something I get to try very often, but when in Rome... :D
Cheers Martin - not the rarest of targets, but certainly a good processing challenge with a huge dynamic range.
Hey thanks Dunk, I was referencing an APOD by Roberto Colombari for the colour - Mine is not as deep as his but it still turned out ok ;)
Hi Peter, hopefully Mum's snuggled up warm with my dad in Heaven :)
Thank Marc, I'm tempted to go even deeper if I can revisit a dark sky again this summer.
Thanks Mike - all those of us who have been there know it's a great loss, and we express our feelings however we can - I think Mum would have liked this one too ;)

You should go to Astrofest. You'll get another 7 to 8 degrees on this one.
Your Mum would be proud, a great image indeed.

Despite the noise, I really like this one. The dust looks good and the reflection is well detailed too.

Thanks very much Paul - hopefully I can add some more data to this image over summer.
Thanks also to Leon, M&T, Mark & JA for your kind comments, much appreciated everyone!
Cheers :)
