i don't know what you guys think but i found the cost of buying a pier rated for a decent telescope was unbelievably expensive so rather than fork out up to $1500 for something that will be used irregularly when i have people over to my house and show them planets etc, i thought i would make one. i spent around $50 on material, essentially some steel angle, and welded it up. i time lapse imaged the process, i am really happy with how it turned out and the views of Saturn we all got were amazing.

Great video Aidan, I wonder if I could do the same, but I only have an arc welder, which is no good for bending the steel.

cheers :) i reckon that cutting and welding rather than bending would give you just as good, if not more precise, result

$50 worth of material maybe but a whole more skills than that. Good job.

Thanks, it was my first time welding, i just hope it all stays together :P
