Ancient History - remember when.....

well I replied to another thread about a member wanting some information from and old S&T back in May 1981.............time warp..........lets see I was in high School, year 8.........oh and I played with my first 12" Newtonian telescope at school.....................


just looking through the mag, I found ads for celestron (liked the little girly in the shot), Dynamax SC telescopes, parkes, Meade system 2000 scopes, Questar 7", byers drives, ads for mirrors (did you know what a 24" f3 mirror was worth in USD back then, $7850, I wonder in real terms what that equates to in AUD now) and their astrophotos look very amateurish (compared to the quality that most members of IIS are producing now):D :) and the mag cost USD $1.75

Yes Houghy, i remember those days well, i was married with three kids then, even had an article in the American Sky and Telescope Mag, about roll off roof observatories. ;) I was 31 then :scared:

what mag and what date, I might have it, I have S&T back until 1964 and astronomy mag from when it started

This is the reason I was interested in buying Geralds collection of Astro mags (see Buy and Sell ). Just to follow how amateur astronomy has developed over the years.

Several years ago I went chasing all the astro mags I could until I had a copmplete series back to 1964 so i could get in the apollo missions and other space missions as well as I loved the big scope ads!

1981, 11 years old, grade 5 at primary school.

still thought girls were infested with girl germs at that stage.

Now at 36 married and with two lovely daughters, I still think they have gril germs cos i cannot follow what they say!
