Well that's a hat trick now, my colleague Dietmar Hager just advised me of the third APOD out of the Arkaroola Remote Observatory, this one of NGC 1365 in Fornax.

That is an awesome image of 1365. Lovely colour and pin sharp. Arkaroola data strikes again.

Wow!!!!

What gear was this with? The APODs never give any photo details.

Hi Peter,

Planewave CDK20 f/6.8 telescope (D=508mm, EFL=3420 mm) with IRF90 rotator/focuser.

Planewave A200HR GEM with the 0.07” absolute encoders.
FLI Proline 16803 CCD camera (9um pixels, FOV 37’ x 37’) + Apogee 10 position filter wheel loaded with 50mm square Astrodon LRGB-HaO3S2-VcRcIc filters.
Lodestar autoguider mounted in an Astrodon MMOAG.
Housing is a 3m Scopedome with modified shutter (so the 20 can see zenith!).
The exposures were all 30min long at 1x1 binning, 9/5/5/5 hrs of LRGB.

Cheers everyone.

Wonderful picture and we can all be proud that
it was taken in a remote part of Australia.

cheers

Exhuming an old thread as one does - trying to work out if/how a CDK 20" and an MEII can fit into a 3M Scopedome.

Would love to know, given the price jump to a 4m

It's a tight fit but a 20" does fit inside the 3M dome. A low pier is necessary but it will fit.

Congratulations. Sensational image. Aspirational!

Kind regards,

Thanks Paul, appreciate it. The mount will be an MEII which might complicate matters?

Diego's created a little 3D model for me which indicates it should fit, but my main concern now is the counterweight shaft fouling the floor.

We talk about trying to raise the dome by 10-20cm using a circular ring a round concrete form (or little brick wall), neither sounds like my idea of fun!

Any ideas/experience appreciated!
