Hello fellow astro friends,
One of my best locations for nightscape photography is in the Two Peoples Bay nature reserve, East of Albany. This Photo was taken over looking Little beach in the reserve last winter.
A panorama taken with a Full Spectrum modified Sony A7s.
IDAS HEUIB-II MFA filter
Sigma 35mm Art lens.
10 sec exposures @ f1.4 and ISO 10000
Cheers

Great Image Joshua, the modded camera definately picks up amazing detail in the Ha regions.
What is the red on the horizon? A bit of air glow?

Very nice work Josh! Love those colours. Looks like you've picked up a bit of aurora to the south too.

Amazing image, Josh - fantastic. I just bought a new Nikon D850 and Zeiss Milvus 35mm f 1.4 lens and I cannot get pinpoint stars at 10 seconds. Indeed, only 5-second exposures give good results. From my perspective, the 500 rule seems not to apply in all cases! Cheers, Richard

Thanks Richard.
The eule is very basic and acceptable results will depends on pixel size, observing latitude and imaging declination. And ofcourse what one determines to be good enough results.
Josh.
Hi Decimus,
The npf rule is what I use. It takes into account the resolving power of dslr sensors. Aperture effects and diffraction. I use photopills, which has the calculator built in....it is a bit conservative though, unless you’re really pixel peeping or printing big.
.....beautiful photo by the way Josh.
Happy new year!
