View Full Version here: : Some obscure faint fuzzies

Here's a virtually unknown field in Phoenix - two large and prominent interacting galaxies with lots of other faint fuzzies. The two main galaxies only have ESO designations but probably should have made it into the NGC catalogue. Conditions were variable with some periods of good seeing but it was mostly the usual stuff.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Peter. I can't claim any credit for finding this field. It was a suggestion from Sakib Rasool, my UK contact.

Really nice Steve, an interesting pair that most of the community probably never knew even existed :)

Thanks Colin. Until recently I would have been included in the community that never knew they existed. FWIW I have a huge list of targets that I'll probably never get round to. Quite happy to share this with anyone interested.

Thanks Louie

Thanks guys. I'll look at how I can disseminate the list, possibly on my website if there's room.

Yes, an interesting pairing Steve and with that bright star smack in the middle, looks cool. Seems to be some distortion in the galaxy on the right, wonder what did that, the other galaxy looks unperturbed..?

Thanks Mike. I was assuming that the one on the left was doing the distorting but I have to admit I don't really know. It's not easy to find any information about these things.

These 2 galaxies are quite easy to nab visually. At a dark site I have nabbed these with a 12" dob. Not many ESO galaxies this easy to get.

Lovely. The needle-thin edge-on spiral came out very well, with fine dust lane detail. Lots of other little fellows scattered about the place also showing distinct morphology.

Thanks for the visual feedback Malcolm. I'm not surprised to hear you say that. It just proves that there are a lot of objects that wer missed from the NGC catalogue.

Nice ones! I think I came across these the other night on the DSS skymap.

Thanks Kevin. They show up quite prominently there. I'm currently working on another obscure group in Phoenix. Hope to finish it off tonight.
