Hi all,

thought I'd have a go at an "HDR" composite of the corona from the USA eclipse. I didn't get as many images as I would've liked due to my intervalometer suddenly stopping working at the critical moment but I may still have enough images to work with anyway
This is a stack of roughly 45 individual images (pretty much all of them) which I've compsoited using the "radial-blur" unsharp masking method. I did have a go at adding in the prominences as well but they looked terribly fake so I've left them out for the moment.
I've added a single frame of the prominences a little before 3rd contact as a standalone image in a bit higher resolution than before.

This is very new to me so hopefully I can improve on it with some repros as I start to understand what I'm doing :)

*Edit - I feel I've made a significant improvement with the HDR so I've uploaded a newer version (first image). I kept it simple this time around with the new version and used just 14 individual frames with exposures from 1/1000th of a sec up to 4 secs. I still have some artefacts but not as bad as before and I was able to bring out some earthshine and a few prominences.

They look pretty good to me, Pete! We missed you at Astrofest :)

Thanks very much Dunk!

Thanks Rick. Very rude of the cosmos to schedule an eclipse on the far side of the world during Astrofest. Should be there with bells on next year! :stargaze:

I've got some ideas on how I can potentially improve on this. It will take me some time to work through them however.

goodness gracious Pete. that higher res prominence exposure is simply stunning. far better resolution in them than i obtained. what were you using to image the eclipse? focal length must have been pretty high!

Thanks Krishan. It was taken (like all my eclipse pics) with the Little Astro-Tech 65mm EDQ at a focal length of 420mm. I think with prominences exposure is the key as it's very easy to overexpose them. This one was 1/1000th of a sec at f6.5 and ISO140.

Thanks Joe. Are you back from the USA yet?

Thanks Frank - I've improved the processing so have uploaded a newer version of the HDR (first image).

thanks Pete, pretty sure i was out of focus by some margin, due to the temperature drop. i was at f/7.1 600mm.
