Lagoon and Trifid widefield

Had two lots of data of Lagoon and Trifid widefield. So decided to combine them.
Details.
Canon 5DH Canon 300mm F2.8L at F2.8, Hutech LPR filter, 16x240sec at ISO 400 and 6x600sec at ISO 200. Corrected for flats with ImagesPlus, stacked with Registar as two data sets and the two median combined images then SUMMED with Registar. Digitally developed with IP and only adjusted levels in Photo Shop.

I did not use curves as this would result in loss of dynamic range. This image shows the advantage of many frames to get better signal to noise. I hope I got the colours right.

The Canon 300mm F2.8L has a Fluorite (genuine artificially grown perfect single crystal) element and two ED elements. It is most probably one of the best lenses that Canon (or anyone) has produced so far. Only the availabilty of 'better glasses' could improve on it.
This lens is as good at F2.8 as it is at F8. The purchase price reflects this near perfection but look at the results. The only fault it has is slight secondary astigmatism off axis wide open. This is apparent in the brightest off axis stars. Nothing else comes close at this focal length and aperture.

Mike the 300mm image was from data collected in June and July (two nights) and the 100ED data in April. As I learn more about processing it is always worthwhile to go back to earlier data to see if the image can be 'improved'. I tend to do this when there is cloud or smoke and/or Moon.
The only way to get good at this astro imaging is to practice and ask yourself what can be done better. The only person you are competing with is yourself.
I think the aim of astro imaging is to do the best you can with the equipment available to you. Until you master what you have got, there is no point getting bigger and better.
The analogy is you dont start off in an F1 car, you start off in a go-cart and work your way up.
Sorry about the rave but a lot of people get discouraged by attempting too much too soon.
