I have only owned the 400D for a couple of weeks & got to use it 2 or 3 times so far due to nasty weather.

Here are some images from the camera & a DSLR newbie using a 5.5" F3.6 schmidt newt on EQ5 no guiding/PEC control. All taken 27th dec. 06' & all 1st quarter moon affected

The Rosette: Not an easy capture, its huge! & it's low surface brightness makes it hard.
8X2 min subs @ 1600 iso / 4X2 min subs @ 800 iso. (taken in small JPG format) 2 different processing versions uploaded.

M42: An easy one to get, only I forgot to get some short exposures to control the burnout. I also made a botch of things processing it, I'll get better though  Approx. 12 X 2min exp.

The Crab: Its a small object to capture with my setup so I had to crop it serverely. Needs more exposure time to get the filaments. 5 X 2 mins.

The pleaides: 2 X 2 mins. Gotta get more subs stacked on this one.

I'm quite happy with the 400D so far but a 20DA it ain't ;)

Cheers.

Thanks Steve. Remind me to upgrade to a HEQ5 or an EQ6 sometime, this mount is driving me nuts! ;-)

I am suprised at how well the Rosette nebula came out on the unmodified camera. I thought it was meant to be less sensitive to the reds without the mod??

Yes, It is less sensitive to red to a point but after trying a modded 20D (20DA) It's not far behind. Thats half the reason why I posted the Rosette pic. :) Theres proof in pictures.

I've gotten the horsehead with it too, but only just. I have to wait for the moon to buzz off before I try for that again.

Hi Asimov, Very impressive, and the ammount of Red in the Rosette Neb. is amazing considering its an unmodded Camera, also M42, I have a modded 300D which before modification Pix of M42 were very blue (never tried the rosette) maybe the Filter is different on the 400D, proof of the pudding is in the eating, look forward to seeing more of your Pix., That Scope sounds like a beauty at 5.5" F 3.5, wonder what make it is.cheers.........Jim
