For sale is my Lunt 100mm ED-APO 45* Binocular telescope.

The BT was purchased new from APM Telescopes in Germany and arrived late last year. Since then I’ve also purchased a Kowa Highlander Prominar and find i’m using that a heck of a lot more. The Kowa’s highest magnification eyepiece is a 9mm for 50x and I find i’ve never really wanted to go any higher than that so the Lunt binoculars are rarely used.

Im also interested in purchasing the Doctor Aspectum 500/80 40x binoculars which are around Eu 5K hence need to free up some funds.

The BT takes any 1.25” astro-eyepiece. I can confirm it comes to focus with the Doctor 12.5’s, any TV, any Pentax XW, and any Vixen LVW eyepiece. I currently pair them with Pentax XF 12’s and 8.5’s for 45x and 64x magnification respectively.

Pentax XF 12 and 8.5mm discussion on IIS

The Lunt BT come with APM’s older model 18mm eyepieces.

Specs & description are straight from Lunt website (http://luntengineering.com/product/100mm-ed-apo-binoculars/).

Binos were purchased from APM Telescopes in Germany. APM have these manufactured under both Lunt and APM banners (Markus Ludes is a shareholder of Lunt and owner of APM). Now they are only available under the APM branding. APM Specs founds here: (http://www.apm-telescopes.de/en/binoculars/giant-binoculars-100mm-aperture-more/apm-100-mm-45-ed-apo-binocular-1.25-eyepiece-holder)

APM 100 mm 45° ED-Apo Binocular with 1.25" Eyepiece Holder

Large binocular for a small price!

This spherical excellently corrected 2-element ED APO binocular offers an extremely high contrast. In the basic equipment we have included 1 set 18mm eyepieces. The focal position was chosen so that Tele Vue Delos, Nagler, panoptic, and the Docter can be 12.5 mm UWA eyepiece focused.
Are integrated sliding dew shields with front cover plate, a carrying handle with sighting device, a photo tripod adapter with 3/8 "thread connection and 2 eyepieces 29facher magnification.

To keep the weight to a minimum, the binoculars housing is made of magnesium.

Areas of application for the APM 100 mm 45° ED-Apo Binocular:
• Astronomy - the 45° angled view provides comfortable observing
• Observation binoculars - also for distant objects (for example target)
• Bird watching, animal observing, nature viewing

Delivery contents:
• Binocular 100 mm 45° with 4 Covers
• Photo Tripod Adapter with 1/4 Inch Photo Thread
• Transporting Handle
• 1 Set 18 mm Ultra Flat Field Eyepieces = 30,5 x Power
• alignment certificate

Also included in the sale price are the following items:

- APM Red Dot Finder which is designed on screw onto the handle of BT (base pictured) (AUD$ 80.00)
- Matsumoto Centre Mount. Custom made friction mount from Japan by Tatsuro Matsumoto - the same guy that makes the EMS housings for premium bono-scopes (AUD $600). This mount has a fitting for a standard 3/8” tripod mount (any video/camera tripod) and replaces the foot at the bottom of the Lunt binoculars. This foot is removable using a standard 6mm alan key.

Pics on CN with Matsumoto Centre Mount

This is an additional $580 worth of items.

Its important to note this BT comes with a Wellenform (optical lab in Germany) certificate certifying collimation to 110x using 3-6mm Nagler Zoom eyepieces.

Foot at the base of the BT has 3/8_16” and 1/4” fittings so can be used with any standard video/fluid head. I use a Cartoni Focus HD head and Manfrotto MK1612B tripod for this particular setup for stability.

The foot is removable using a 6mm Allan key to install the Matsumoto mount base plate to the Binos. My first attempt was messy hence the small scratch marks on the bino body around the foot (accessing the bolts required modifying an Allen Key which I will supply)

If these are even half as good as the 120mm ones you sold me they will be an excellent buy .
I haven't used any thing else for visual since buying your 120mm APOs the views are stunning.

hi Zane,

Thank you for the positive comments. I'm glad you're enjoying the 120's. What eyepieces are you using? Did the Baader Zoom's work?

I'm in the same boat as you re binocular observing - very difficult to go back to squinting with one eye once you've looked through a decent binocular telescop. These APM's are certainly top of the class at the moment and i'm not sure there's anything around that competes.

The 100's are a reluctant sale for me - i just haven't touched them in the last 3-4 months. I'm enjoying the Kowa Highlanders @ 32x so much i dont really feel the need to go any higher. If anything I'll sometimes use them at 21x and just meander through the night sky :-)

Send some pics through of how you've set up your 120's if you get a chance.

cheers

Hi Jeelan
I've been able to use 4mm EPs ( 165x ) with no problem other than tracking which takes some practice.
I've used part of an old Jean Texereau Scope on meade tripod , looks a bit rough but it works well , the laser and finder are handy too

OMG you actually built a Texerau, the most ugly duckling of all time, complete ?

That deserves a medal !

An update on the Baader MKIII zooms for my binocs'
After removing the snout and the bezel and making new 1.25" tubes for the zooms I can now get them to work on the 120mm 90s
I think your 100mm 45s will work without modification with the Baader MK IVs

All the best
