Hi All,

Wondering if anyone has had experience with the below giant binoculars -
APM 100 mm ED-SemiApo Binocular

http://apm-telescopes-englisch.shopgate.com/item/31383933

Would you recommend these binos? Was there much CA? How was the sharpness?

I am considering getting these binos as I can interchange the eyepieces.

Thanks for you time :thanx:

hey mate

I have the APM 100 ED APO (not the Semi) and love it.

Completely difference experience to cyclops viewing with additional resolving power of two objectives rather than one.

The APM APO is essentially two well corrected doublet scopes put together. I've pushed mine to 110x with no collimation issues. They come collimated to 100x with a Wellenform certificate.

Fit and finish is of a very high quality.

If you are still keen on getting the 100mm Semi APO - I would strongly suggest you consider the smaller 82mm APO as an alternative. Image quality and colour correction will be significantly better than the semi APO.

cheers

Oh one more thing - if you do end up purchasing the pictured model from APM, make sure you inquire whether the accompanying eyepieces are their newer model or older. The newer ones are very good - the older models are extremely ordinary.

Hi Jeelan,

Thank you for the information. I might then to save up for the APO model then. The APO model is a lot more pricier than the semi-APO.

I still need to decide on the 82mm binos or 100mm binos !~700 euros difference.

Thanks for the tip on the eyepieces.

Is the model of the APM Giant Binos you have:

Thanks :hi:

+1

I have a pair of these and they are incredible, especially with 24 TV Panoptic and 12.5mm Docters.

such a pleasure to use and the APO's are sensational.

yeah sorry mate I didnt realise there was such a big price gap between the Semi APO's and the 82mm APO's..

that being said I'm pretty sure the Semi's that you have pictured are now discontinued are they not?

The new ones look identical to the APO's but with a different colour scheme to differentiate them.

Mine are essentially the same as the APM APO, only in the Lunt brand. Markus Ludes (owner of APM) use to brand these binos APM for Europe/global sale and Lunt for the US market as Lunt Engineering is better known there for other optics...

This practise has now been discontinued and all these binos are branded APM - mine have the same hardware (glass etc) with Lunt branding.. still purchased from APM Telescopes when they were selling them through.

Hi Stefang,

Thanks for confirmation as you are never really sure with expensivr equipment. Always good to get experienced people to share their experiences.

Hi Jeelan,

Thanks for sharing. No need to apologise at all mate  You saved me money as I rather save up for something decent rather than end with up with something that I am not happy with :hi:

I am thankful everyone is happy to share their experiences.

I think I just need to be patient :P

Thanks again,

Mel
