Wow, what a stunner!

A high impact image that is electrifying!

It looks like a band of fire across the sky. I wish we could get this one from the southern hemisphere.

I love it BTW

That's spectacular Rick.
So much detail with the gaseous filaments.
I fully expected to see the Enterprise emerge from the shockwaves.

Thanks, Greg. It's definitely one of the objects that makes a northern remote scope worthwhile :)

The colours are definitely well into Andy territory  Thanks

Fantastic image Rick. Full resolution image is well worth exploring

Is there a neat way to tackle halos around brighter stars that have nebulosity in the background?

An image such as youths dream of.

Very cool Rick. Is there a lot of SII in this object? I did this using Ha and OIII only also from SRO.

You say you drizzled the data to double the resolution. Did you actually achieve 0.63 asp using this method i.e half the the resolution your scope is able of producing?

Super image.

Cheers
Martin

Very good Rick!!
Very striking.
I haven't seen many HaO3S2 versions of this.
Cheers,

Thanks, Louie. One of my SRO colleagues just suggested we need more data, so maybe I can get those hours up ;)

Thanks, Kevin.

Thanks, Suavi. I'm sure that some messing around with PixelMath to combine star and RangeSelection masks would make it possible to fix the halos.

Thanks, M&T.

Thanks, Martin. Yes, there's quite a bit of Sii. I suspect that there aren't many SHO images because a basic Hubble palette doesn't work that well for the Veil. At least it didn't for me...

I usually drizzle 2x and then when I'm done processing I resample 0.75x. Drizzle definitely gives a resolution improvement for this set up at SRO, but it's not the whole 2x.

Thanks, Tim.

This is a seriously interesting (and well executed!) veil image, Rick! As others have remarked already it looks like a fairly deep exposure is needed to pull out the SII response.

I do believe that we now have firm evidence for fire breathing dragons.

Seriously good. The image seems to be alive; anything but static.

Thanks, Andrew! Automated scopes rule :)

Thanks very much, Peter.

Thanks, Mikey! I have previously done a 6 panel mosaic of the Veil using our original FSQ-106 at SRO and also a SHO NB image of the "Fangs" part of the Eastern Veil using the RCOS 14.5" at DSW. This one is in between the two in terms of FOV and resolution and has its own special charm, IMHO

Oh My!
Full Rez it's quite something. I took a wander around the edges to see the faint stuff, really impressive, espcialy liked the blue coming through just behind the red "bow waves" at the top of the image.

The colours selected do a great job of binging out the detail.

Thanks, David. I wish we had time to do a mosaic at that resolution. It would make a fantastic large print.

A striking image of this area, though I think I prefer the bi-colour version myself. Detail is very nice on the high resolution image too.

Hi Rick,
When i first looked at the thumbnail i thought the image was ok but the palette did not appeal very much but when i looked at it in hi-res it totally changed my mind, the details are amazing and the colours are brilliant.

Superb as usual

Thanks, Paul. I took the view that there are already a *lot* of bi-colour images of the Eastern Veil so I should try to offer an alternative :D
