Hi

I was just going over the sub frames of an image I took of M46 and NGC 2438 when I found a strange object on one of the frames that had been rejected from the stack after I did a Median combine? Any clues as to what it is would be appreciated. Camera fault?

Thanks!

Dennis

Could be a bit of dust on your sensor there, but that doesn't explain the unusual redness to it. Interesting..

Perhaps if it was submitted to the authorities for spectro and further analysis.. you might identify the anomaly..   :confuse3: :reindeer:

Looks like the thief that broke into my observatory.

Looks like my Meade SCT in his bag.

I believe thats called the "Santae Australis" object. Its variable, dropping to below detectable limits only rising to naked eye visibility at Christmas time. Scientists are yet to explain why.
