Couple from last week - NGC6164/5 and M27

First up, 3 cheers for QHY repairing my QHY12 camera quickly, I took it the Post Office on the 22nd June to send it back to China, and DHL delivered it back to me on the 17th July. So that's a pretty good turnaround time I think.

I captured 11 hours (44x900secs) on NGC6164/5 hoping the blue halo surrounding the nebula would emerge, but it was not to be.

M27 doesn't get above 40deg elevation here so I could only capture 1 hour per night, total of 4 hours (16x900secs).

Sweet images Bill! I was going to try for the blue halo around 6164 but.... I think it's in the too hard basket.

Nice images, Bill! That halo around NGC6164/6165 would be tricky to get without an Oiii filter and *lots* of integration time.

nice captures! they are really vibrant, i like m27 way too low for me down here.

as for ngc 6164/65 you really need to use a an O3 filter to get the outer shell (as Rick has mentioned). you do show one part of the outershell/shockwave at 7/8 o'clock but in red.

but to demonstrate, here is two pics one without O3 filter being used and one with, on a modded dslr.

Thanks guys, its obvious, thanks to Russells images that an OIII filter would be the go for that halo.

When I blip between Russells two images you can just see the faint edge of the halo in the image without narrowband.
Good stuff, thanks for the comparison Russ.
