Do I have a problem when I have chosen to go downstairs to the pub for beers with a group of friends...when it is a clear night ahead with only a crescent moon....?...I could have said no but the call of the hops was stronger than the call of the universe....:help: :drink:

You are too hard on yourself.
The opportunity to mix with some mates ... You should take it.

Have a few, have some laughs sing some songs and go to the observatory after closing.

You should be doing both! Automate ;)

I'm giving a short talk on remote/automated imaging tonight. I think this would be a good lead in. I can go to the pub *and* capture data at the same time

Since you have asked...shame on you Mike! You have just gotten a brand new shiny FSQ and instead of capturing messengers from distant galaxies you have instead chosen drinking a weak solution of yeast poop...

And just to drive it home, Suavi made ^ his 2,000th post in recognition of the 2,000 crying photons from FAINT galaxies that are going to be wasted. Where they would have had a soft landing in the large well of a 16803 they will now go smashing into the shutter of your closed observatory.

I've just left the pub, because it's too bloody cold there, so hibernating tonight. its gonna be a cracker frost!:(

Some people have all the luck! I'd be like a kid let loose in a lolly shop! The choice is a moot point Mike, too cold for practical and comfortable obs is my best offered excuse.:)

No.

You made a decision.

If you had not made a decision, and you ended up doing neither, then you have a problem.

Sometimes a change is as good as a holiday, as they say. Sometimes it good just to do something different...

Seeing is only so-so tonight Michaelangelo, so you aren't missing out on much.

Having said that, I have been visual on 7 GX so far with the A-P 120, and just went to the C&B Nebula...if you don't know the C&B, don't ask :) (AKA Omega Neb / M17)

Agree with you Lewis - have just come in after only one and a half hours due to the poor seeing and substantial halos around almost every star.
Two nights ago was brilliant.

LewisM
28-07-2017, 09:43 PM
I had a couple of very fleeting moments of excellent seeing, but for the last half hour I was continually chasing the focus with the bad seeing. Luna was swimming, Jupiter was very average (hard to even see any banding!), Saturn featureless - I was hard pressed seeing the Cassini Division (let alone Encke's Minima).

Jewel Box was OK, M17 was quite good at times as was M8. I managed to bag a LOT of Messier and NGC objects tonight, though not overly clearly :( Antares-B was definitely NOT on the books tonight (I tried, and failed)

Choosing to spend time with friends always seems like a good option to me, and it's only slightly worrying that it was the beer that was calling rather than the mates...;). :)

But if the astro hobby gets too serious I guess there's always A.A. to join - "my name is Mike and I'm an astroholic" ......

Pleased to say, I have not indulged in the "portable vat maker" for over 30 years. Don't miss it even slightly, (nor the delusions of steroid impregnated superman-ism ), and cant really understand why Aussie blokes drink the stuff  Errrk!

Having said that, give me a wee dram or five (+) and I am happy enough.... and we make fruit wines for a hobby. Probably 500 bottles in the "Wine room" atm.... and I have a growing number of bee hives.... so Mead is looking like an interesting project this year... :)

Oh... the temptations... :P

Just for the record, while I managed to represent and captain my country and set numerous strength records, including one World Record, I never touched a steroid...it can be done :)

Definitely don't need to be Aussie to appreciate fine ales ;)

Amen to that :prey2: I love Scotch style whisky my self and some bourbons, I have a couple on the shelf at the Observatory :D ...usually starts after the beer is exhausted

Went to stat putting everything together Suavi and the first thing I noticed is the Robofocus adaptor OPT sent is the wrong one  ....so thought I'd have a beer instead :D

strongmanmike
30-07-2017, 02:21 PM
That's my understanding  they sent me RFB2 instead of RFB3

I was going to say you could have mine (I ended up with a spare somehow), but, I remembered that I was going to use it to cobble together a focus mount for my 200mm lens.

Thanks for the thought, I think OPT will just need to send me the correct adaptor..?

Or you could just go to Bunnings, buy some aluminium and MAKE the bracket in about 5 minutes...

strongmanmike
30-07-2017, 03:15 PM
Hmmm?... drive to Bunnings and back = 45min alone

Plus don't have required tools

LewisM

I'll lend em to you lazy butt! :)

Or visit the workshop of Kunama Industries.

Since when was Bunnings Belconnen 45 mins away from you, unless you drive like an old nana!

I appreciate you NOT having been factually correct in your assistance thus far :P :)
