I was experimenting a bit with my modified Canon FD 400mm F/2.8 at NGC 6334 last Saturday from Ballarat, aiming was a bit off, and a friend (NGC 6302) sneaked in the frame (upper left corner).
I will try it next time with Rubinar 1100mm

Canon 450D FSM, 16x2min stack, darks, flats, processed in DSS, curves in DPP.

Nice!

Serendipidous discoveries are great fun. My very first attempt at astrophotography, using a Canon EOS 20D on an unguided Celestron 9.25 with a pathetic finderscope, I tried photographing the Trifid, because at least I'd heard of it. It was almost on the meridian, and I was lying on an ant-hill somewhere in King's Tableland trying to point the thing, just using Norton's Atlas. Came home with a lovely smudgy photo of the Lagoon.
