Very exciting - sw horizon clear of heavy smoke for first time tonight and I could see the moon! Opportunities for observing & imaging are few and far between here at the moment, so I got the dusty gear out. The attached image was taken around 9:11pm AEDST (10:11 UT) - NexImage through 4.5" f8 reflector, 5 AVIs of 5sec @ 15fps - processed in Registax V4 (single point alignment) and images stitched in Photomerge Panorama in PS Elements.

We didn't get much rain last night (just a few showers) and the ground was bone dry this morning. After a pretty windy & warm day, smoke from the bushfires was back by this evening, although not thick. Not the good news that the more southerly areas such as Mt Buller received. Still hoping for more rain in next couple of days...

Cheers -

nice, great attempt. Our skies have been crud for a long time and we all need some rain, and lots of it to clear the heavens and drown the dust. Then be clear for later of course. http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?p=175758#post175758 in this thread you will see the horizons I am talking about and what you also have described
