This forum does not use https yet, so passwords and other data are transmitted unencrypted over the line.

Is it not a good idea to enable https ?

Certificates are free with automatic renewal when using Letsencrypt.

You may be better off sending Mike a PM directly about this and he may then respond to your question.
He's the only one that can change it to https.

Just looking quickly at the source for the login page it appears that passwords are not transmitted in the clear. A MD5 hash is sent instead. MD5 is not considered terribly secure these days but it's not like we're doing online banking here :)
