Thought I will push my luck with the Helix 10km from Melbourne CBD, so here it is. Just under 3 hrs of data with my FLT 110 and Canon 1100D.
Can just make out the outer shell, but I will need anther 3-4 hrs to tease out the details.
Hope the clouds go away soon!

Showing up nicely Bo! You'll have to get that ASI out at some stage with a Ha & OIII for some Bi-colour :) Doesn't help with the clouds but at the very least makes some of the light pollution go away.

That's pretty good from the CBD with a DSLR, Bo. You'll certainly do better with an ASI and NB filters but it will still take some long integration times to get the faint bits!

Yeah not bad Bo, hard to get much better with a DSLR from an inner city local, you have revealed the first outer shell (eyebrow) nicely. It's quite nice as is but I recall a time, not all that long ago really, when this would have been an image of the Helix to marvel at :eyepop:

Thanks all,
Yes, I need to get all the filters in the wheel and bolt the lot together to my ASI 1600. It's just there are so few cloundless nights I can't be fuddling around!
Mike, thanks for the encouragement. I will see if I can complete it in the coming weeks before getting the ASI on my FLT.

Very good Bo. It's quite a low surface brightness object and to bring out some of the faint outer shell from suburbia is impressive indeed.

Amazing shot so close to the big smoke Bo. Did you use any LP filter?
