We got a little light to medium rain for a few hours, the grounds is so dry though it really didn't do much at all. I think we need a good few weeks worth of rain, during the day of course and then clearing for the evenings. At the moment there are a lot of strong winds passing through.

cheers

We had very strong winds here in Albury all last night then we had a quick down pour sometime early this morning but only damped the lawn until the sun broke through.

Good to hear some of you people are seeing rain.

Let it pour... let it pour .... let it pour!!!

Anyone else with some rain to report?

It's shaping up here in Canberra. Fingers crossed.

Well I have to say we aint flooding, but it sure is green around the place.
Over the range to the west is where it all starts to get serious. I've only
had to water the garden 2-3 times over the last maybe 6 weeks. all the
tanks are fill.

regards,CS sunny days

Rob

All the best to all in 2007! hope you have a fun and safe Xmas

We just had a good hard rain in Melbourne, but it didnt last long.
It came down hard for about 10min , then drizzled for another 30min or so.

What an unusual thread of comments for an astro forum!

Just goes to show how seriously bad the drought is!

We've had nothing yet... hopefully it's coming.

You know it's a serious drought when astronomers are preying for rain! (mind you with the cloud and smoke we've had lately, it would've been good if it was raining).

Unusually? Really?

The weather's every bit as valid a topic as cricket... christmas, fishing or The Thing... don't you think, Al.

Probably more so, given the impact it has on our hobby?

It is, after all, the General area of IIS;)

So.. let's keep those reports of rain rollin' in. It makes me feel good to hear it's raining. Somewhere:)

Great to see you folks getting some rain, you sure need it
We have had about 100mm for the month so far, but with some nice clear "Observing patchs" in between !

We had the weirdest drop of rain I have seen last night.
It was a light steady rain but the clouds were so light the stars were actually shining through and I could easily see Orion from where I was standing, very strange indeed.

A few drips and drops here over the last half hour or so. Not enough to even register in the weather station though (it reads to 0.1mm resolution). The BOM site shows a significant cloud band following a trough so, with a bit of luck, we'll receive more as the day progresses.

It's been pouring down here at Tura for a good hour and a half and all the new plants we put in have got a good soaking. :rain: Cant complain, everything needed it.
Just discovered though that the gutters need cleaning , there was a few overflows at a few points. I think I invest in some leaf guards to solve that problem in the future.

cheers :)

Great for the garden, I think the grass looks greener already.:thumbsup:

Nice rainband running across Brisbane's Dam Catchments at the moment. Hopefully at least 20-30 mm by the time it clears away tonight.

I don't think Brisbane is too far from dropping below 20% Dam capacity, hope we get heavy rain soon! (not much point worrying about astronomer when theres no water!).

We've had about 15mm this afternoon.
Good slow, soaking rain.
The temperature dropped, at 3pm was 17 degrees, at 4pm it was only 14 degrees!

Summer will arrive in the new year after all this rain is finished.
Still drizzling here.

It's been steady soaking rain in the western subrubs of Brisbane all day yesterday, overnight and today. Great for the garden, but I'd really like to see it a bit further west over the dams.

As for "summer"? Who cares - its normally too hot and humid up here anyway!

CometGuy

A bleak drizzly day with a top 19 C in Brisbane (I think a December Brisbane record). I have never felt this cold in Brisbane in December, wearing a jacket for the first time since winter. Whats going on, it should be sweltering!

Some rain falling over the dam catchments, just needs to be heavier.

Lovely lovely rain.
I can't remember the last time I saw it rain like this. Slow and consistant.
No storms attached. The rain is falling vertically!
