The Crab

Hi All

This is a shot of M1 I took from my trip to Coonabararan last weekend.
I shot this one with a SXV-H9C CCD through the ZS110/.8 reducer guided with the ZS 66SD on a G11 mount.
Exposure time was 10 minutes x 12 and I used AA3 to capture align & combine and post processing done in CS2.
There is no doubt in my mind that this is an object longing for a higher resolution instrument.
Anyway I hope you all enjoy It and of cause all advice is always welcome !

Sorry I can't give any advice on how to improve it. Have never imaged a DSO in my life :sadeyes:

I love the delicate structure of The Crab. Those darker red lanes wrapping around the more orange/peach coloured areas of the neb.

I thank you guy's for taking the time to check my shots out and for taking the time to reply.
I'm glad you enjoyed It,It really is a spectacular object and I guess that knowing that the Chinese recorded It's appearance in 1056 makes It even more interesting.
A great target for imaging with It's expanding debris and while I think of It, was a spectacular visual sight through Zane Hammonds 24" ! you could actually see some of the central structure which I've never noticed before in smaller scopes.

I think that most supernova remnants that we see have dispersed but this one is still holding together so we view It as a hole at this time.

Gazza David and Scott, I thank you for taking the time to look and reply to my post! I've been told that my flash gallary is slow to navigate.
I'm very happy that you guy's enjoyed this object as much as I did hunting the beast down.
Gazza,could you PM me that missing word ? hahaha
Houghy,I can't see a crab either mate ,but I'd still hate to have It crawl around in my....well I think I'll just stop there.
Scott,I was suprised to see how easy It was for the SXV-H9C to pull out that Ha line and a hint of the blue reflection neb in there.
I will revisit this object with longer subs but I do suspect that I could be reaching the limit of the 4"scope.

Thats a great shot Louie, it really is! I have shot it a few times now, including this morning but theres no way I can get the red filaments like this, I'm pretty well maxed out at 2 min exposures with the EQ5 lol..

Thanks Andrew and John... John,2 minutes might be two short not sure,what are you shooting It with?If your got a bit of aperture and a fast f,ratio should help out and at 2 minutes you want 60 subs ! a UHC filter should help as well If you haven't got an Ha filter.
What camera are you using,what scope are you using?do you have autoguiding or do you guide manually?

Hi again mate. I'm using 2 scopes at present, a 5.5" F3.6 schmidt newt & an F4 8" newt.

I was using the modded 900nc up until a week or so ago, but now I've gone a 400D.

I can't auto guide with the EQ5 (no electronics on board apart from the dual axis drives) & I haven't been bothered manual guiding as yet.

Yeah, I'll be trying the UHC-S filter tonight to see what comes of it.

I'm having fun by keeping it simple at the moment :thumbsup:

Thanks for looking Petra ! John,those scopes should do real well on It but try and get a couple of hours worth of subs and the UHC should do It .
You could also try going to about three minutes and the select the neb and save selection and the paste on the 2 minute subs but you'll just need to align It with the move tool in PS...good luck with It !
