I only remember some parts of the plot - it is about colonization of the habitable planets, travelling inside alive spaceships and some kind of strange "invasions" of people from other dimensions.. it is more horror than science fiction... it could be trilogy, or more.
Could someone possibly give me some hints?
Thanks!

Moya in Farscape was a bioship. There are many examples of bioships in sci-fi literature. You might find a Google search useful. I did a quick one and found many literature references.

:thumbsup:Glen, thank you, you might be right. However, I am not sure about TV series though... It was a book (maybe couple of them)
It is a starting point for search anyway...

Could be the 'Culture' series of novels by Ian Banks? Even if it isn't they're some of the best recent Sci-Fi, although sadly, the author died a couple of years ago.

Sounds like the movie Event Horizon. But, I know you're after a novel!

Have to agree about Ian Banks, the culture novels are great.
Bojan, could it be the Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons?

Thanks guys... Nope.. it's not Hyperion., and it's not Ian Banks.
I remember one detail - merchant ship, loaded with black wood from particular planet.
The wood is very, very strong, and can be cut only with powerful laser.
Also, the mind "invasion" ... one "infected" person (actually the invaded) refuses to go into stasis field, because the "invader" would be "expelled".
Or is it all from completely different novel(s)?
I have to leave it for a while, to settle properly...

I went to see Event Horizon after a period where I lived on my own for a few years with no television. I hadn't really gone to the movies either. So it had been a few years since I'd seen any violence of any description other than the odd pub brawl. I think I used at least half a bottle of Laphroig to get to sleep that night!
Amazing what we acclimatise ourselves too, although I suspect the early humans would have been used to seeing horrors we couldn't imagine today.
Food for thought. Or food for a sabre toothed tiger?
Sorry to take the thread off on a tangent...

I think this is it , just need to read and confirm it, but this is what I remember:
"The sprawling narrative deals with a far future when humanity wages war against past souls flooding back into the land of the living via possession (Al Capone (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Capone) and Fletcher Christian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fletcher_Christian) are among the returnees)."
Thank you!

Cool  I haven't read them, but I'm pretty good at the google/wikipedia combo :P

Sounds like the Reality Dysfunction by Peter F Hamilton. Bit out there I found.

Andrew,
I saw it at the cinema, too. I was 18 at the time. I was a mess during that movie, hahaha.
