This is nothing to write home about but I thought I would finish off the Shapley catalog of planetary nebulae (there's only three of them). Shapley 2 is the smallest (officially 24" although there are some faint blobs and suspicion of a halo further out) and probably should be known as IC 4642. Seeing conditions weren't the best for this shot:

For the record, this is my version of Shapley 1 (taken a few years ago):

And this is the recently posted Shapley 3:

Cheers

That surely is a tiny little sucker Steve! Nicely captured and processed.

Thanks Colin. Hopefully the next object will be a bit bigger.

Sharp! The white dwarf is the tiniest sharpest-imaginable pin-prick.

The nebula has the look of the tiny double shuttle-cock shape of Eta Carinae, here seen as two overlapping and slightly offset circles.

Well done!

Thanks M&T. I'm officially starting to get bored with tiny planetaries so I may not be posting too many more of them.

Good work on all Steve:thumbsup:It's easy to see the difficulty in resolving detail and faint nebulosity as the size of the PLN gets smaller....looks like you've pushed SP 2 very hard.

I'm going to try these one of these days!

Excellent Steve, bagging all three makes for a cool collection  Sh2 and Sh3 have similar structures really.

Thanks Mike. I guess they are slightly similar. I have to admit that all these little PNs are starting to look alike.

Thanks Louie. Yeah I did wind up the deconvolution and high pass filtering up a bit. I wanted to get as much detail out as possible. If you're going for one of these, Sp 1 is the one to try first because it's bigger.
