Cat's Paw NGC6334

NGC6334 taken over about 6 nights. This is 730 x 30 seconds unguided + 225 x 60 seconds guided with PHD2 and 50mm guidescope for a total of 590 minutes or about 9.8 hours. GSO 10" F4 Newtonian, Baader Semi-Apo filter, Canon 1100D full spectrum, HEQ5 Pro.

Probably forgotten something. I'm so tired I'm nodding off at the keyboard.

I was banging away at the Cat's Paw for a few nights last week. I have about 1.5 hrs on it and its still noisy and not well defined like you beautiful shot. Maybe I will persist ...

Not bad Kevin - good depth and tonality. :thumbsup: Well done.

But, having just pre-processed some colour for my upcoming LRGB rendition, I can tell you that it's not just red. There is significant blue signal coming out of this beastie! This manifests in some nice blue reflection and some rich pink and magenta hues arising from OIII. The trick is to let the blue shine through.

Keep persisting. More subs = less noise.



I suspected there was Marcus, but when using the Semi-Apo filter it causes the Ha to dominate. I don't have an OIII filter and being an OSC camera anyway I'm just figuring out a way of adding some OIII. Maybe if I took some subs with a green filter and added them to the green or blue channel? Something to experiment with perhaps, although I really need a mono cam for what I want to do.

Marcus can correct me if I am wrong but this should be reasonably close to correct RGB. Shot with a DSLR, lacking data for some of the blue however as can be seen with some of the mottling in the background.

That's more the result I'd get if I shot it unfiltered. But I'd have to work harder to get a nice result as I get some LP here from a dozen close orange streetlights and the semi-apo filter kills them.



Thanks Andy. Blacks are not clipped on my monitor except for a tiny bit at the extreme left edge.

Lotsa subs work for me. Don't be surprised if I keep it up whenever I get an astro cam. Helps dodge the cloud and a bunch of other errors.
