View Full Version here: : Trying my hand at Webcam Imaging
Hi all
The next clear night i'm going to try some Webcam work on Saturn.
I have the Phillips 840k, unmodded.
Now iv'e never done this before so i would like to ask this...... :D
Do i use the 12" SCT or the ED80, and do i go prime focus, or use 26mm EP, or 2x Barlow, or both in either scope.
Or is there a better combination. :)
I understand Mike is right up there with this, so Mike :help:
Thank You.
Cheers Leon

Go prime focus with the SCT Leon.
The ED80 is too short a focal length for imaging planets.
OK... no-one else other than Mike answer dear old leon's questions:lol:
 ok stop yer yappin astro pooch! :P MOOO!
go the 12 inch cause you will get a longer focal length for one and increased aperture for more detail
even if the ed80 could get the same image scale the aperture would hold it back.
oh and prime focus. :)
Yeah.... what cow-boy says:)
Sorry Matt,
It wasn't supposed to sound like it did, i'm sure all you guys are equally qualified to answer my questions.
Cheers leon
Thanks for your info guys, much appreciated.
Cheers Leon
No apology needed, leon.
Just having a lend. Good luck with your imaging and keep asking those questions.
the bovine and yapping pup are always happy to help :)
hey, post your results too. youd be suprised what you can learn fromthe experts when they see your image :)
another sugestion, i am not sure what fl your scope is but if the seeing can handle it throw a barlow in there too. it will increase your scale further :)
Yea Ving i was considering that, if i get any reasonable results, i will post them.
Cheers Leon
Hey Matt, what's with this dear "OLD" stuff.

12" + 2X barlow (technically called negative projection, check out this link (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=20720&d=1165965132) but substitute the slr for a webcam)

Thanks Paul, looks fairly basic, all i need is the smoke to clear tonight.
Cheers Leon

Definitely go with the 12", and start with prime focus. The image scale won't be huge, but it's a good start to make sure your tracking is working well.
Once you've had some experience capturing a few avi's, stick in a 2x barlow, 2.5x powermate, 3x barlow, 4x barlow or whatever you've got for increased image scale.
Processing is a whole other story.. read my articles for a bit of help on that and then ask questions!

Wish I could get over to your place Leon. :( Rotten shift work!
We could both Toucam image and learn from each other.
