Yep,just another Triffid....nothing to write home about....had lots of trouble with flats and LP but hey,the fact that we can still shoot colour from Sydney
is remarkable.....skies suck so much here.

Seeing: absolute crap!
Location: Padstow

Cool shot. Having said that what are you doing out imaging with the jetstream at 100kt? That'll teach you! :P

Impressive in every possible way! Thanks for sharing! There's a big number of online pokies available today. I play free pokies online with free spins at pokiestar.com for my own pleasure (https://pokiestar.com). So much for a fine life, huh? No heavy losses at all!

In terms of sharpness and depth, that is a spectacular shot. The Herbig-Haro jet and the evaporative gaseous globule next to it are both very clear. The reflection nebula has come out beautifully. The four stars on the tip of the pussy-cat's nose (dead centre of the trifid) are nicely resolved, and the brighter of the two central ones is starting to elongate.
Our only query is if the colour balance might be a tad too blue. It is a very blue area, and we're used to seeing it in NB, so perhaps it's really fine.
Best,
Mike and Trish

Hi Louie,
it looks great to me -
in fact that's amazing from light polluted Sydney.

Mike...thanks very much for that...you were right on the money!!!some slight adjustments led to much better contrast as well:thumbsup:

Al yes,It's amazing you can still shoot RGB & Lum from Sydney at all I think....I guess If you keep colour exposures down and collect enough signal It's doable....just.
Still, you'll never ever get the depth that a dark site will provide....better than nothing though:thumbsup:

Yeah not too bad really Louie has all the basics, the seeing clearly wasn't on your side...makes a lot of difference to the final product. Was the seeing bad for the whole 20hrs?...man that sucks

Very nice Louie - especially considering the light pollution and bad seeing. :)

Yeah thanks Mike....lot easier shooting with the FSQ which didn't care too much about the seeing...still,more fun with the RC.
April's 6 hrs of luminance was the good data coming in at 1.76" to 2.49" as read by CCD Inspector.
That saved this image I think.....all the rest came in at 2.5" to 4.5" but hey that's the way the cookie crumbles :lol:couldn't care less to tell you the truth....just do this for fun:thumbsup:

yeah,It's shoot in LP or don't shoot at all for me:)

That's pretty reasonable Louie given the poor seeing. Seeing is always king.

Hi Louie,
1.76" to 2.49"
That's very good seeing.
The lowest I've ever measured in Melbourne was 2" & that was with an Ha filter.
Some nights it's been 6" & I've shut down the telescope.
You've split all those stars at the bright center.
Not many people do that.
cheers

Very nice, can see the jets clearly and the dust lanes are very nicely resolved.
A lovely 3D look as well.

Don't know how accurate CCD Inspector is Al but It gives me an idea of how the nights going from sub to sub.
Just running through the subs again Al, April was a good month for me here, with a few subs coming in under 2" and most of the rest coming in at low 2's. So,6 hrs good Lum and 4 hrs of bad colour and 10 hrs of bad Ha....most around the 3"and 4" mark.
A couple of other projects going too with seeing not so great Al,but hey It is what It is :)
Has been interesting watching the diffirence seeing makes on a sub at 2000mm.....imagine what imaging at 4000mm:scared:

Yep, that's it, we can't have the best conditions all the time and unlike some who have nicely automated collection processes (and patience) most of us simply don't enjoy the luxury of picking only the very best subs from the data collected, or at least have much higher thresholds of acceptance ...so having fun is very important.

Hi Louie,
I image at 1000mm & that's even too much for Melbourne's average seeing.
Is there a "seeing" chart for Australia?
Coonabarabran & Siding Springs are the best as far as I know
but I have a feeling that some places in the desert could be good.
Also we have many mountains around 5,000 feet in altitude although
I've found on one of them - Mt Baw Baw that
wind was a real problem.
You really need a dome to act as a wind break.
It can be still on a mountain one minute & then 30 minutes
later you can get 80km per hour gusts.
No guiding system will follow that except maybe adaptive optics.
I was thinking of trying Lara - a place about 20km out of Geelong
but it would be a waste of time if the seeing was bad.
I've seen Sydney & Melbourne from aeroplanes high up at night &
it looks like a giant light mushroom over the top of them.
To think that you can get any picture at all through that is amazing.
cheers

Don't know If there's a seeing chart for OZ Al,but I would imagine there would be.
Seems to me that It would be hard to avoid the winds when in high elevation one would think.
Anyway, you need a place that's within reason so you get out there more often I recon.
I would settle for a place within a couple of hours drive of the CBD and average to good seeing, and of cause a good clear sky average throughout the year....don't want much do we.
Of cause you could just shoot in your back yard and do the best you can with It and have some fun....better than nothing mate.

To me that's a pretty good Trifid Louie. Possibly the reflection nebulosity is a bit too blue but you wouldn't be the first person to do that.
Cheers

Thanks Steve....I reduced the mid blues a bit as per M&T advise which I thought improved contrast as well.
Still,I'm not very happy with It not so much because of the seeing, but the fact that I'm having problems with flats(mechanical I think)and I haven't been able to find out why yet.
Anyway, thanks again for the feedback...much appreciated.
