View Full Version here: : Well done Bintel
Just a quick thanks and well done to Bintel (Sydney).
Even though it's the week before Xmas and it was so busy it sounded like a madhouse when I phoned to place an order yesterday afternoon...
I'm delighted to say a copy of Robert Reeves "Introduction to Webcam Astrophotography" lobbed on my doorstep earlier this morning.
Thanks folks.
Great looking book too.
They were in the Christmas spirit yesterday avo cos I was in earlier doing a stock take. That is why we are getting some good rain too.

Yep, good on them. My PST turned up pretty pronto after ordering it mid week last week.
Enjoy the book matt, it's great. If you enjoy it then keep your eye out for "Digital Astrophotography - The State of the Art". It's also worth a read.

While in there doing a stocktake the other day I was presented with two new rubber fucuser grips for my ED80; they were gift wrapped, no less:thumbsup:

Hey Matt, that book sounds very interesting - how much was it?
cheers,
Hey Rob
$79 and that includes the $10 express post.
Good value for 335 pages, hard-bound.
It's a great book and very nice quality. Everything quite well explained.
I'm actually enjoying learning about the physics/electronics of how CCD sensors work.:screwy:
There are also entire chapters devoted to things like K3CCDTools.. Registax ...GuideDog and putting together wide-field lunar mosaics. Check this link out for the table of contents.

It's really quite the bible for us webcam folk, and there's plenty in there which would be useful for you DMK guys:)
I've actually written to Robert Reeves to let him know how much I'm enjoying the book.
I've also extended an invite to have a look around IIS and see some of the great photographic work that's been done, and is being done, by many of our members with a variety of webcams including the ToUcam.
I've also encouraged him to become a member and hopefully he'll do so, and become an occasional contributor to our great community:)
Amazing!!!
Robert's already written back. Now that's good PR:thumbsup:
I won't bore everyone with all the minor details of our correspondence, but I'll share his reponse regarding my invite to have a look around IIS:
I have looked at the site and was impressed with some of the advice and articles there. They are good enough to have been bibliography material for my book!
Hopefully Robert will visit us often and even join up and make the occasional valued contribution:)

Wow, nice feedback! Thanks Matt.
Hopefully he'll include it in the next revision :P
Sounds like a great book, look forward to your review.
No worries Mike. It'll be a pleasure:thumbsup:
Great going Matt, that is definitely advancing the cause, I'll look forward to your review.
And a well done to Bintel for getting everyones xmas prezzies out to them so early, they are a great bunch of people.
Cheers
My tip for dealing with Bintel is to get on the phone and talk to them. Don't email them, its a complete waste of time. I emailed both the Sydney and Melbourne offices well over three weeks ago regarding some Astronomiks filters and have yet had a reply. IMO, in the digital age an unanswered email is as bad as an unanswered phone. Disappointing that they don't take internet sales seriously.
Subsequently, I've order the filters from OS.

It took me a few weeks to receive an Orion 2" Deluxe barlow from them. I was a bit annoyed at them as they have it advertised on their web site, but when I phoned Sydney, they said they "didn't stock it" and "hardly anyone askes for it".
They had to back-order it. Luckily it arrived here yesterday (a Christmas present from me to me:P , along with a 13mm Stratus)

Must add that I am so impressed with their service. Ordered a 13mm Stratus at 4pm and it was on my door at 8am the following morning. Guess Australia Post helped as well but I was suitably chuffed.

Well Done Matt,
leon loaned me that book for a while - it's excellent.
Robert Reeves as an IIS member would be awesome.
I'm getting Photoshop Astronomy by Scott Ireland for Xmas (from Bintel too), hopefully it will be good enough to invite him into our inner sanctum too!!:P
Cheers

Merry Christmas all. :xmas:
I might add to the thread that I have had a number of internet orders with Bintel and always found them prompt and efficient. Maybe its the way I hold my tongue when typing
