Hi all,

I have loved the night sky for as long as I can remember but I am new as a member to this forum.
I have been doing 'astrophotography' with my DSLR and 200mm lens (stacking usually around 100 1sec lights, with darks and bias) for a few years now. I am planning on upgrading to a real astrophotography setup soon. Still trying to work out what I want.

I agree, thinking of getting an EQ6 level mount and initially just mounting my dslr and lens on it for some short subs. Been keeping my eye on the classifieds recently for a second hand one. Being a poor student and all.

Eq6 just for camera and lens feels like wayy of an overkill. If you dont plan on buying a heavy scope theres no need to fork out that much. A lighter duty mount like a heq5 or even just a star adventurer for your dslr and lens should have the same result as a $2000 eq6.

Oh i definitely agree, I dont plan for this to be my first and only step into the hobby, next would be an short ED refractor then guide scope and finally a longer scope that I would all want to mount on the EQ.

Welcome to you too, I would prefer to be over mounted than be struggling with too much weight regretting my purchase in the future. What gear do you have Andy?

I did have a Sky Watcher Star Adventurer but sold it and am picking up a HEQ5 Pro synscan on Friday. It comes with a long FL, slow aperture scope that I'll probably use for viewing or sell (Bresser Messier AR-127L, 1200mm f/9.4) and a set of GSO Plossl eyepieces.

Camera wise, an unmodified Nikon D800 and various MF lenses, the longest being the 180mm f/2.8 ED ais with 2xTC.
