I know there are heaps of videos of polar alignment but what's the easiest way to do it? I have a AVX mount- first time I've used this type of mount. And I'm still getting used to it.

I assume that you are going to use a DSLR for imaging, and therefore
have one. If so simply google DARV polar alignment; you'll find it easy after a little practice, and very accurate.

If you dont want to have a laptop with you when imaging/viewing, invest in a decent illuminated reticle eyepiece. You can use these to drift align fairly easily. I use PHD for drift alignment but then youd need a whole guide system set up.

You don't even need a reticle eyepiece to use DARV, and no need to have your laptop with you either; it is much
quicker than traditional drift aligning. Just write down the instructions, they're not too long.

Worth a try: http://www.sharpcap.co.uk/sharpcap/polar-alignment

So far it's been pretty easy.

I haven't got an avx but I assume the handcontroller has ASPA (all star polar alignment). I use it all the time on my cgem (and previously on my cg5). Its really easy to use - in the manual. Do it after your two star alignment.
