First attempt at orion nebula using Neil's LX200 8". ISO 1600, 69 second with a 300D. No wedge or eyepeice rotater used on the LX.

this was my best piccy of the night.

Rowena.
you have the basis of a great image here.
It needs a few more just like it, and then stack them with either Registax, or Photoshop.
Without a wedge or de-rotator you will need to keep the exposure times short. But this is OK with the brighter stuff like M42.
Try another 10 - 12 shots, and stack.

cool. will do the stacking.. but i just need more than 1 image to turn out unblurred for me!. Have to get my focusing correct! has anyone ever tried stacking the same photo(create multiple copies of it) to see if that turns out? would it turn out?

Now just to learn how to use registax or photoshop correctly! hehe perhaps theres an idea for an article for one of the aussie magazines... how to do stacking and how to clean up a photo! *hint*hint* ;)

It doesn't work. You have to have different photos for stacking to be of any use to increase signal/reduce noise.

hehe yeah... can't wait to get my hands on the 10"! It will be good, because then i can try imaging all night long as i won't be "borrowing" someone elses scope! :) ... well at least until the 2 camera batteries die!

i want to have a go at the Swan nebula next i thinks! it looked quite nice through the eyepeice on a 12". will look better in color!

If i can do an image a week.. i will have a nice scrap book by the end of the year! :)

had beautiful skies last night too.. and tonight looks like it will be another goods night viewing aswell!

Nice start to your imaging Rowena, use of a Hartman mask helps with focus, short exposure times are also good. I hope that you can do 1 image per week, however you may find that this is not as eay as you might think. Still I wish you luck with your quest.

Keep those images coming.

Hi Rowena. Turned out O.K. last nite after a cloudy start. Dew was a nuisance with the SCT's. I might have to start charging a few dollars for the use of my 12 volt hair dryer tho. Crickey, 17 people turned up. Nice pic. Pity you didn't have your new Meade. Keep it up.:D L.
