Hi Everyone,
My name is Brendan and I am in Brisbane.
After visiting Lake Tekapo in NZ late last year and going on the observatory tour I have caught the bug. I have used binoculars for a little while and I recently purchased a Celestron Nexstar 6SE.
I love it but rather than just rely on the computer to tell me where everything is I am trying to read and learn the various aspects of the night sky myself.
I am sure I will have a question or two down the track like for instance I have a little issue getting my alignment centred in the eyepiece.

Anyways just thought I would say hi

You've made the right move with a computerised telescope, it really helps with the enjoyment early on :)

Thats up for debate colin :P. I actually preferred using a manual mount (A dob for me) when starting off so I can learn how to star hop, read constellations, charts and stuff. Half the fun of astronomy :D

Welcome Brendan, :thumbsup: you have come to the right place for helpful advice, but you do know of coarse that the astronomy disease you have now is not curable :shrug: sorry.

Yup, not only incurable disease but has strong associated symptom of extreme cloud paranoia where the sufferer is convinced that clouds are really living creatures lurking behind houses, trees and fences waiting for the poor sod to wheel out his Dob and seat after swearing black and blue that immediately prior the sky was clear....they're everywhere...and they're watching......:eyepop:

Absolutely mate. We have had cloud in Brisbane all week. I had a window of clear sky last night. I decided to run the gauntlet, aligned and then watched in horror as it filled the sky within minutes again.:mad2:
