I just realised what an eyepiece is for!!
its only taken a while but they are there so that you can stop the dust from getting into the tube before you put the camera on:thumbsup:;)
that's what you do when you cant find your dust cap:help:
Different focal lengths = different surface areas for dust collecting ability.
:D

I adhere to the Houghy Eyepiece Dustcap school.
Nothing better when you have misplaced the 1.25" or 2" dustcap from your drawtube.

Wo, wo and thrice wo, for the ways of the flesh are strong and the pilgrim is wont to fall by the wayside.
For he who casts eyepieces into focuses to smite the dust shall sorely be cast into the inferno.
...with apologies to Dante.

I always thought that they were just a handy tool for centering brighter objects before you attach the camera.

As a visual observer I’m finding this thread deeply offensive and have a good mind to report it to the mods…

For anyone interested I’m sure I’ve got a couple of eyepieces with no name on them that are brilliant dust collectors that I’d be happy to swap for some of those Televue ones that don’t have anywhere near the dust collecting power.
PM me if interested. :P
