Can any of the fungi fans here please suggest any sites that give tips on how to identify types of fungi/mushrooms?

We get a few pop up from time to time on our bush block but I have no clue as to how to name them. A few months ago a small group appeared that were considerably larger than usual. Apart from their size they looked similar to the small ones that we commonly get. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the gills but (if I remember correctly) they were white, changing to a browny hue with age.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks Bob. I'll check those sites out in the morning.

Definitely not planning to eat them. :) They're actually long gone now anyway, but the only place I forage for mushrooms to eat is the local supermarket. ;)

Chris

Cortinarius australiensis

It is easier if you can turn one over and photo the underside too. Just FYI for future reference.

Thanks very much for the ID Trevor.

Yes, I definitely should have got some better shots from different angles. But I'd never seen such large ones here before and was reluctant to disturb them initially. And then by the time I remembered to go back to the site for a better look they were long past their best. :(
