Snake in the Cupboard

HI Guys, some of you probably know we are house sitting in Yeppoon QLD, we love it here.

However that is not the reason for this thread.

My dear Alice saw a snake last week and i did post about it here.

Today we went to the garden shed and i said in fun maybe there is one in her Darl and pulled open a draw on the Cupboard.

Na, nothing in here i said, then pulled out the second draw and look what we found. :eyepop:

Alice bolted :lol: and i took his/her photo. ;)

Well that one looks pretty snug in there, hope you just closed the drawer and left.
That's a different one to the last one, not a python but doesn't look like a dangerous snake, the bad ones tend to react pretty quick and either defend or leg it.

Thank you all, yes H it is another beautiful creature, I slowly closed the draw and will let it be until such time it wants to leave.

Hrm, I think I'd be very cautious - looks very similar to the eastern brown snake.

Agree - that's a brown. Have it removed quick smart.

You are darned lucky it didn't lunge as they tend to. Savage bastiges.

It may even be a Taipan.

Very high chance of dying after a bite from one of the more dangerous Australian snakes, even with medical treatment. Anti-venom offers a false sense of safety.

When I lived on the farm we killed any tiger snakes around the house - just too dangerous for kids and pets. Apparently black snakes keep other more dangerous species away.

Slim neck and buggy eyes, looks more like a brown tree snake.

I don't think its an Eastern Brown as they don't seem to have a yellow belly. My guess is, its a Tiger snake (still very dangerous), or a Brown tree snake (not dangerous) if it has yellow eyes.

I think it is a king brown. We get them here too. Could be eastern brown though.

If you look at the image closely, it does not appear to have yellow eyes. Also, the belly does have a yellow tinge (look at the exposed belly bits). Finally look at the skin pattern and compare it to the image from the website I linked.

Anyway, get a professional in to remove it, I reckon.

Leon, I used to think house sitting sounded like a good lark; sit around in some swish place, feed to pooches and budgies and occasionally mow the lawn. You're making me reconsider.

David do it mate, this place is unreal over looking the Kepple Islands, high on a hill. ;)
It is huge, three levels and two massive sheds, a low maintenance garden, however a bit steep for my older legs, but i manage.
Their 40ft Catamaran awaits their return in Roslyn Bay Marina.
We pay nothing to be here and are encouraged to drive the second car with fuel supplied and use all food in the freezer, until their return.

It certainly was a lucky House Sit but we do have plenty of excellent references, from all over the Country.

Now about this bloody Snake, what to do with it. :shrug:

It's a brown tree snake like one member suggested, Boiga irregularis. They are venomous but not deadly and usually quite placid. Often active at night.
Place a towel or something over it and put it outside, chances are it'll disappear overnight. After that you can enjoy this beautiful part of Queensland even more.

Leon, you could ring the RSPCA and see if there is a snake catcher in Yeppoon.
It has probably moved on overnight as they are nocturnal.

Na Sil all good I don't really mind Snakes, it was just a surprise to see in the draw.

If you look at the snake charts supplied you will notice that the super poisonous snakes all have black eyes(like their souls), angry looks & the head shape is different to the python types as well, so your little devil with bulbous greenish eyes is more like the brown tree snake. I only see red, yellow & blue bellied blacks & really big old browns with foul attitude's & the odd whip snake up this neck of the woods.

Geoff, you mention the whip snakes, well i have had two of those as well, but they took off pretty quick.
