Good evening.

I couldn't wait to return to my favorite SH nebula with the RH305: NGC 6188 in Ara.

In the NB palette it is just so dramatic, so I used this again, 4 hours each filter.

Currently imaging the second panel also.

thanks
Martin

Really nice Martin! I saw the single 1800s sub you put up, such fine data from a single sub! The SHO version really does it justice.

Beautiful image Martin,
tack sharp stars in every corner & very tasteful processing.
I think you're on to another APOD.

Lovely, Martin. A great result especially for such a modest integration time

Thank you very much! Perhaps I will wait until I complete the second panel before firing it off.

I am so glad you are back on scene Martin - it was your works that inspired me into AP all those years ago. Just wish I could do it half as well! :)

Stunning.

Fingerprints of the maestro all over it.

Just excellent.

Superb image Martin! A lovely 3D effect and, yes, I always think it looks best in NB.

Echoing others - the dragons look spectacular  Am I right assuming the 2nd panel will integrate NGC 6164-5?

I am planning to image the same area in the coming month(s), and will certainly use your image as a benchmark.

Cheers Peter. Accolades indeed.

Thank you - but no, I am pretty sure the FOV will not encompass 6164

Very nice of you to say so Lewis. Delighted you are sticking with it.

Many thanks Steve.

All the best
Martin

Yes that is just perfect. Love the colours you've gotten, it really makes it.

Lovely sharp, crisp detail & perfect stars - but overall it looks a bit too dark on my calibrated monitor.
I get the dramatic effect but I think the image would "pop" more if it were lighter and less dominated by blue. Just my 2c worth of course :D
Looking forward to seeing the finished mosaic

Lovely, Martin. As well as the obvious there are beautifully shown OIII bubbles around and near the bright cluster, and fine, delicate dust streamers. We like the overall dark presentation with occasional brilliant highlights.

Best,
M & T

Thanks again everyone.

Andy - note that one of my golden rules in image processing is to 'obey the data'. The OIII you see in the image, mapped to blue, accurately represents that master frame, commensurate with the amount of cumulative exposure (4 hours).

I too have a calibrated monitor (I use a Spyder Elite) so I think the levels are appropriate. Thanks for commenting.

I actually prefer darker images IMHO, and on my Spyder calibrated () monitor, it has a nice balance.

To me, cosmic imagery should NOT be bright, because in reality it is not. I don't believe in distorting reality - to paraphrase Malin - respect the light.

This image definitely gives me the right "vibes", and I have actually rotated it and used it as my desktop image for this month (hope you are OK with that Martin)

I agree. I imaged this last year with the RHA and it's bright in O111.
As to brightness there has been a trend over the years to HDR looks most likely due to abuse of a few PI tools. Over brightened images create an unnatural look in my opinion.

Thanks guys for the comments....you should check out the two panel mosaic I posted since this. I have always tried to remain subtle with my colour and levels of brightness - and as I have said many times - obeying the data.

and I do not mind at all that you have it as your desktop background - that makes two of us!

cheers

The extended rendition is really nice. Beautiful nuances in the Oiii regions. One for the poolroom.
