213660This is my highest resolving Centaurus A image to date. The jet is there (above and to the right) and the star formation areas and the central dust lane shows some detail and a few minor Ha areas. There are knots of dust scattered further out as well. Plus a few little background galaxies are showing up.

CDK17 and Proline 16803 are a good match.

Have a look at the original size and swim around.

Dunce hat on and in the corner for 15 minutes. Fixed!

Now don't expect to see shell structure as that would take about hmmm lets see, about 20 hours!

Ah huh! now I see it  Really beautiful colour and shrunk to 50% it really looks great.....but...looking just a little closer it looks like you have chewed up the detail a tad in y're processing lad  it's all granular and crunchy  and the stars are just a tad eggy...I can see there must be cleaner detail in that there data  maybe a repro...? Still, viewed at 50% none of that is visible and it looks awesome

Love Cen A though :D

For me Greg I think it is a beautiful image. Great detail

Well it was pretty windy for 2 of the nights like 50kmh winds so I was happy there was so little egginess. What little there was is now fixed though
. As far as the detail/granular that is uh ooh Mike doesn't like decon. I personally like it as it is as its quite detailed, obviously not to your taste but hey, that's not firm ground.

Sorry you've lost your first to comment rights for 6 months!

Greg.

Cheers Mark. I thought it turned out OK.

Looks good to me, Greg. Only some minor nits when pixel peeping :)

Quite a deep image Greg, some nice faint ellipticals popping through the background :)
I wasn't sure if the egginess was there or being caused by my astigmatism :) Looks good though Greg!

Very nice Greg.
I also detect a faint darker halo around the galaxy

Thanks Rick. I was quite happy with it overall.

I fixed the very minor egginess. I was happy that the scope was still able to give good data in the heavy winds over 2 nights. That wasn't the case when I used to have a closed tube RCOS 12.5 inch. Anything over about 8KMH affested the images.

Yeah an odd thing.

Thank you.

Greg.

I'd say that getting anything with heavy winds is pretty good!

Hi Greg,

That's a detailed and deep one for sure!!
I can see the jet appearing......

Well done!
Cheers,
Tim

Yes I was surprised I got useful data. The AP1600 is a very beefy mount.

Thanks Tim!

A Nice and colourful image Greg. Well done.

One of those galaxies it's always worth going back to.

Its a common object but its rather unique.

Thanks for that.

Excellent relativistic jet, Greg. One of the better ones. And a huge improvement over your already good 2015 version.

Best,

Thanks for that. Yes the jet did show up quite well.

Crisp stars Greg and some fine detail in the galaxy itself. My only criticism would be the very apparent noise mottling around each of the brighter stars, especially the one closest to the galaxy.

Looking forward to imaging this with the CDK when it eventually emerges from its crate.

Good job.

Cheers

Gee the critics are harsh. Looks wonderful to me. Very detailed.

Nice catch Martin, I missed that. I modified my processing routine in the past to prevent that sort of thing by doing a star mask before doing final stretch and colour boost. Bit of minor mismatch perhaps from the wind perhaps not that gets amplified by the colour boost.

Fixed it manually now but may go back a couple of steps and do it properly.

Cheers,

Greg.

Ah huh, high winds, that'll do it :windy:

Doesn't have the characteristic decon artefacts actually, looks more like the erosion or minimum filter or something  anyway as I said it looks great when not looking too close :)

 ....sorry for being picky just that since it is another image of the most imaged galaxy in the southern sky...such minor issues can make all the difference :)...and hey, I did say the colour was bluudy good :D

Still love me..? :prey:

Great detail and colour. Windy conditions like that sure don't help, but the result is terrific anyway:thumbsup:

Thanks Markas. The truss helps mostly as only the last bit is in the wind stream. I take the shroud off when its windy and that just leaves a smallish section that holds the secondary. The AP1600 is a very beefy mount probably more heavy duty than a Paramount ME. So that also helps. I must say I was surprised. I did throw out a bunch of subs though.

Given the indifferent conditions you had Greg, that's a very attractive Centaurus A. I would wind back the saturation a bit though but that's just my preference.

Cheers

Relatively minor points raised by others aside, the overall result is very appealing Greg! Lively colour, good detail. Nice work.

Thanks Steve. The central bar is a bit saturated and could be wound back a bit.

Thanks Marcus.
