Hi fellow astronomers,

I'm fairly sure a few of you live in/around Canberra. I'm hoping you can provide some advice .. !

We are travelling to Thredbo for a ski trip later this year and while we have been to Thredbo (and overseas for skiing) before we haven't been with a child! We will have our 25 month old with us this time.

We are struggling with buying warm clothing for her online - knowing the size is as it shows on the web, finding the matching appropriate layers, boots, mittens, etc. We fly in to Canberra a few days before driving to the snow. What do you think the chances are of finding suitable warm clothing for 25 month old on the way to the snow in Canberra, Cooma, Jindabyne, etc?

Any advice?

Thanks!
Roger.

Hello Roger,

ALDI in Canberra or Cooma would be a very likely source. There are also some 'outlet' mobs that decend on Canberra just for the ski season. One sets up in the City on Northbourne Avenue and sells just about every size.

In Cooma the first place on the left at the BP Servo is Rhythm Snowsports and they have a very good range of gear. In Jindy you will pay a little more and have less choice in little kids gear, more trendy stuff instead.
Cooma ALDI is also on the left, just after the Rhythm store turn left and go about 75m to their store.
Cheers,
Matt

Having faced the same issue recently and in the knowledge kids grow fast we raided the Salvation Army store in Fyshwick for all the appropriate sized jumpers, ski jackets, pants, boots etc. Enough to fill a large plastic storage container and cost us $35 for all of it.That was back in summer when we moved here but they turn over a lot I am sure. No need to buy new for essentially once-offs.

They also had a lot of skis if you are so inclined.

That's good advice.

At such a young age it won't matter that it's second hand stuff.

Become a facebook user if you are not, join "cooma buy sell" "Buy swap sell canberra" and ask or see what you can find on there before you leave Perth. Salvo's is a good suggestion :)

Thank you everyone for your replies  We're considering what to do. I like the idea of the local options suggested ... don't want to waste money on things that will not get worn much.

They seem to be closed to only people who live locally, which I can understand :)

Cooma Salvation Army shop has the biggest array of second hand ski gear. Check it out first if you are in Cooma. Very cheap.
