Ahoy Comrades,

Just sharing a quick test image (entire 17 minute of data captured with a 4" refractor before clouds rolled in) of the Carina taken tonight from Paddy in Brisbane: http://www.astrobin.com/full/293546/0/

Any data is better than no data...

Thank you for looking.

Glad you got something, Suavi! A promising start

Looking pretty good Suavi, appears like you've got the tilt out of the way :)

Awesome result. The brights are superb. The darkest bits are impressive for 17 mins.

Looks good. Hopefully tonight!

Great image scale. It's got all the right bits.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you all for very kind words and encouragement. I have been quiet for months and need to start contributing again to this splendid forum on IIS.

Good luck everyone - hopefully weather will be more conducive to imaging in the coming months.

EDIT: have just noticed this is my 1800 post - it must be a good sign!

Tried capturing some detail of the Eta Car with very short subs, but unfortunately it did not work.

Drizzle integration of about 30 minutes of short subs: http://www.astrobin.com/full/293546/B/

Thank you for looking.

If you wanted something to compare with an almost identical drizzled image scale.

Both refractors and kinda the same size (I mean they're both small compared to them 16" RCs!), I've got 3x your integration though.

Your interpretation of the Keyhole looks very nice Colin!

Played with the data a bit, but I think it needs a different approach (larger telescope?) to tame the Eta Car star...

The super bright monstrosity of a star looks better in yours than in mine; smaller.
The rest I think is simply a lack of integration. Really you should have got the CFF200 ;)

Ha! Please tell that my better half

I'm getting stronger diffraction patterns around Eta Car though, probably because of smaller aperture.

Maybe their 250 RC could ride on Mach1, but 2m FL would require binning my camera's tiny pixels...

Then you have to deal with diffraction spikes! Still say CFF200 riding on an AP1600 ;)

Good point Colin. I think your mount would easily handle their 160mm refractor...will wait to read about your impressions with it first, before I commit to the 200mm ;)

It would, the 160 is reasonably light as 160mm triplets go.

Added a bit more data: http://www.astrobin.com/full/293546/E/

Imaging is fun!

Very nice Suavi, you just need a larger sensor now :P

I know the feeling about the cloud. Its been several weeks now since I have seen a clear sky here. I reckon you need to get some really short subs to capture the homunculus too. I think I did 10 seconds each. I really like the contrast of you image. There is a nice sharpness to the image.

have to be very pleased with that - lovely contrast and detail showing through.
