Hi all and thanks before hand. I have just bought my sons first scope. Its a Guan Shang 153mm x 750mm. It came with four plossel lens 6mm,9mm,15mm,25mm and a 6 x 30 finder. I also bought a 3 x barlow gso for it. The mount is the same as a gs3 so im told. I was hoping to get some feed back about what he can expect to see from this scope. Also if there is some info on how to use the dials:D . I have a 10" hand made floor mounted scope as well and have never used it but would like to now. I hope my son and I can injoy this hobby together. thanks much..
floor mounted? got any pictures of that kyou can share?
as for kyour sons scope planets are the go. once a decent planet comes around he should see plent of detail on it :). the moon will also look great in it too! besides that there are plenty of nebula and globular clusters he should be able to see (in particular the bright ones). if you can get to dark skies he will see even more :)
dont expect views that you see in pictures tho as thats just not achievable with human eyes.
the 10" floor mount has me insterested tho....
welcome abaord :D

And another welcome to IIS!!!
I too am interested in the floor mounted scope....(cause I want to build one!!)
That's a pretty big refractor...so you won't have any trouble in finding a wealth of celestial wonders....and I'm sure you and your son will enjoy many years observing the night sky.
Cheers!!

The six inch scope will be a beauty on the moon and planets. As Dave said it will show you plenty of double stars, nebulae and the brighter galaxies. Plenty of entertainment there for the young fella. Is it mounted on a tripod or a wood box (Dob) base?
Please post some pictures so we can give you more accurate info.
BTW welcome to IIS :)

I will take some photos over x-mas. My friend give me the dob about a year ago and I have never had it out of the box it came in. Its heavy I'll tell ya that. It was built in Santa Cruz California and the lens was made here in AUs somewhere. I was out in the garage cleaning up and it made me think, ya thomas would love this, thomas is my 3 year old son. We will be up in pittwater for x-mas as I said, nice and dark should be good viewing. Here is the photo off the web of thomas's scope
