A very quick NGC4945

What sort of idiot tries to image galaxies in this weather? Me, that's who. But I was desperate for an image! Apart from cloud, the wind was so strong that it blew the observatory roof along the rails! Lost many subs due to cloud and wind vibration. Had to close the roof in the middle of it due to a rain shower.

GSO 10" F4 Newtonian, full spectrum Canon 1100D, Baader UV/IR cut filter, 155x30 seconds, HEQ5 Pro unguided.

"NGC 4945 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Centaurus, visible near the star Zeta Centauri. The galaxy was discovered by James Dunlop in 1826 and is thought to be similar to the Milky Way Galaxy, although X-ray observations show that NGC 4945 has an unusual energetic Seyfert 2 nucleus that might house a large black hole. The galaxy lies 11.7 million light years away."

Not bad for 75 mins of data Kevin. Good to see you are getting some time under the stars, all clouds and haze in Melbourne.

Thanks Bo. I'm still limited to the bright stuff in this weather but it's better than a poke in the eye with a stick. I think it may clear here later next week.

Nice one Kevin, it's in a nice star field as well.
Good to see that you are managing to get a bit of scope time in. I've set up few times but then pulled down a couple of hours later because of the clouds. I can't remember the last fully clear night we've had here, I think it was late last year, very frustrating.

Yeah this has been one long cloudy summer. Totally missed the latest comet Lovejoy. :( Raining as I type. Going by the radar it looks like it will rain all night too. Time to break out the microscope I think.

The colour is very good. Perfect zero point, and excellent colour balance. I suspect that Trish and I made 4945 too yellow, because we knew about the galactic absorption. Yours is more plausible.

Thanks M&T. I thought my galaxy colour looked a bit washed out. The single subs had more yellow but after stacking and balancing the background it's much more pale. And I thought my past ED100 images of it had more colour too.

All in all though, I like the colour from the modified 1100D better than the unmodified K-5.

Thanks Rick! I fought the elements and lost for 2 nights. Gonna try again tonight and see if I can get myself rained on. Luckily the obs roof rolls on in just a few seconds.
